About 5-6 months ago, the backlight of my OBC went out. The display was still working, but very dim. I know this is usually due to the light bar going out, so I went about trying to take it out. I tried going through the radio. After I had the tabs holding the radio in loosened, the OBC lit up again. I figured that this was just one of the electrical gremlins that E30s (and my car specifically) have and didn't think much of it. The light had been working since then, until yesterday.
Yesterday, I took off the tail lights to work on something. I did NOT disconnect the battery when removing the tails. When I put them back in, the OBC backlight didn't work again. It's possible that the lightbar finally burnt out, but due to what happened a few months ago, I doubt that's the case. Would disconnecting electrical connections with the battery still connected have anything to do with this? Could I have burnt out a circuit due to a voltage spike?
