my swap is costing about 2000. but you can get a non vanos m50 for 5-600 and that would drastically reduce the total cost.

    Valve Cover Paint
I like my wrinkle paint, but plan on at least a full day to cure!

    Exhaust Stud
Which ones? M8 for head-manifold, M10 for manifold-downpipe How many?

    Exhaust Gaskets (Manifold to Collector)
    11-76-1-711-717 Exhaust manifold flange gasket, $3.98 ($11.31)
You'll need six new copper nuts
    18-30-1-737-774 M10 nut, copper, exhaust manifold to cat 0.40/0.34, 6@ 0.25
    or from fap99.com
    BMW012507 Exhaust downpipe gasket, 3 holes (11-76-1-711-717), Elring $3.00

    Thermostat
Buy the BMW-sourced one for about $20
    11-53-1-466-174-80 80C Thermostat

    Water Pump
    Water pump part numbers
Note these are pre-1988 pumps, with two inlets in casting
'88+ pumps have a single inlet in casting
Common brands: Geba, Lasso/Laso, GMB, Graf, Meyle, HEPU
11-51-9-071-562 water pump, remfd, AllOEM and Pelican part number, $45.70
    eap4part Graf brand, $34.95, Lasso $40.95, BMW $47.95

    This seal is $5-7 aftermarket

    Coolant Hoses
Buy BMW branded hoses for the large diameters -- aftermarket hoses are not
molded with sharp-enough turns and will rub on the fan or pulleys!

    Throttle Body Heater Gasket
About $1.20, at the dealer only

    Coolant
Unlike a few years ago, you can now easily get good aftermarket coolant.
Make certain it says "Global Lifetime" or "Global Extended Life". I use
Peak but other major brands have specific products that work well.
    Timing Belt & Tensioner
Contitech only, and buy the kit! About $25
Also buy new plastic bits and a real BMW label:
11-53-1-714-433 Hose support, to lifting bracket $1.59/$1.35
    11-14-1-716-134 Wiring Bracket 2@ $0.43/0.37
01-00-1-467-809 Cambelt label, suggested retail is $0.22

    Engine Oil & Filter
    Too many opinions.
    LSD Oil
Any GL-5, although many here like RedLine
    Transmission Oil
Use only GL-4 for the transmission, which pretty much means RedLine MTL/MT90
    Fuel Filter
    Fuel filter, expect $9 - $14
    Flex Disc
    Flex Disc Nuts
    07-12-9-964-672 Self-locking hex nut for guibo, M10, 6@, $0.25

    Rear Transmission Seals (dealer/aftermarket prices)
    23-12-1-282-394 Shift shaft oil seal, 15x21x5, $8.60, $2.35
    23-12-1-205-340 Transmission output shaft seal, 40x55x8, $12.40 , $2.95
23-12-1-220-619 Transmission Input Shaft Oil Seal; 35x52x7mm $7.17, about $3
23-21-1-490-120 Safety plate/Lock plate, driveshaft output flange, $0.85/$1.33
    Socket needed 30mm (1-3/16" = 30.16) deep thin-walled socket
Maximum diameter to fit in flange:1.57" or 40.1mm OD, 14.0mm
Interal relief: minimum diameter of 14mm to 45mm deep
ST Tools BMW3025 socket is 39.04mm OD, 16mm deep flats, 66mm deep

    Center Support Bearing
    Rubber Shift Lever Gasket
Not the shift boot, but the rubber bellows? Boneyard part.
Unplug reverse wires from the transmission side to feed through.
    Shift Linkage Refreshment Parts (SSK?)
This depends on which linkage you have. Look before buying. I have
some extra parts because I trusted someone elses list the first time.
    UUC Delrin Bushings
Perhaps replace sloppy parts w/ OEM before deciding that you need this
25-11-1-220-832, Shift arm to transmission bearing sleeve 26mm, 8.00/6.80
    Superceded by 25-11-7-519-669
    Antenna Grommet
BMW only, under $2, remove antenna motor to install
Wow, thanks for taking the time to post all that. It helped :)

If you installed it the opposite way, it would be in the middle :). That's what my friend did for me.

Go with the Z4 2.5i shifter.

Then get new yellow spacers, get a new shifter knuckle, replace the uuc delrin bushings, The way you do everything right the first time.

Nice Luke. Sounds like BMA it is. Anyone have an answer to the other questions? Especially #2, there's like 4 different brands of water pumps. And what thermostat temperature is better for the Northwest?

I was headed up to PDX a couple of weeks ago. Similar list, too.

I ordered from BMA while on the road, since every price I checked was about 15% cheaper.

Just talk to Patrick at BMA Parts. He'll hook you up with everything you need.
With a long list of parts like that, I'd recommend emailing him instead of calling though.
