New wheels, tires & brake setup

Rear brake installation

Backing plate mod (easy way), just flatten outer & trim to fit e46 325/328i rear caliper
and brake hose line installation



...OR...

Backing plate mod that I've done... marrying e46 325.328i (outer) & e30 (inner) backing plate
and brake hose line installation




Use stock e30 caliper bolts
and shave a bit upper bolt till flush or raised max 1 mm from bracket/adapter



Install backing plate, wheel bearing and hub..



Install the rotor, caliper and 12 mm spacer..
Using spacer to compensate narrower rear track width (+2.5mm than stock)
in total will be same with front 12 + 2.5 = +14.5 mm
Because, I used 17x7.5 et.27 all 4 corners

Front brake installation

Part & hardware
- caliper bracket/adapter
- e30 stock caliper bolts
- e46m3 caliper bolts
- e30/e46m3 rotor screw



Clean the caliper mounting (back side)



Install the caliper bracket/adapter
make sure the groove side face to back side of caliper mounting



Use stock e30 caliper bolts to install bracket/adapter to knuckle (use blue Loctite)
Flat surface on back side




Shave the caliper carriers to clear from caliper mounting
try to fit it using e46m3 caliper bolts




Remove the caliper carrier from knuckle
Install the rotor with rotor screw




Use stock e46m3 caliper bolts to install carrier to bracket/adapter (use blue Loctite)




Test fitting brake pads on rotor




Install the caliper assembly

Bearing sleeve installation

I suggest remove your stock e30 knuckle and send to shop to make 14.5mm inner diameter..
then make 16x1.5mm left hand tap..


Shave a bit (1~1.5mm) or 24mm length from 31mm shaft diameter



Make inner thread with M16x1.5 left hand tap



Install bearing sleeve to spindle using fire torch..
Heat up till its easy and drop by its self to spindle, use pliers to do this..



Install e36 bearing dust cover
and trim backing plate to fit e46m3 front caliper carrier



Install e36 wheel bearing, cap, bearing nut and locking bolt
use blue Loctite for bearing nut and locking bolt

Made from aluminum aircraft grade 7050-T7651 KaiserSelect USA,
high grade alloy steel 4340 | 36CrNiMo4 | 1.6511 | EN24 | SNCM439 steel JAPAN,
high tensile 10.9 grade locking bolts


With this setup offset or track width will change
- front : +14.5mm each side
- rear : +2.5mm each side






Benefit this with this setup :
1. Keep stock e30 suspension geometry
2. 70/30 brake bias, which good for street/auto-x/track
3. wider tires/wheels on rear using staggered wheels


It's required minimum 16x8 style 5 for 16s only to fit e46m3 front brake
and most 17s OEM or 17s aftermarket wheels

1. e46m3 calipers left + right - (a pair)
2. e46m3 brake pads - 34112282416 - (x2)
3. e46m3 caliper bolts - 34116767217 - (x4)
4. e46m3 rotors left - 34112229529 - (x1)
5. e46m3 rotors right - 34112229530 - (x1)
6. e36/46 wheel hubs - 31226757024 - (x2)
7. dust cover - 31206777788 - (x2)
8. cap - 31206777789 - (x2)
9. rotor screws M8x12 - 34111123072 (x2)

>> Rear :
1. e46 325/328i calipers (make sure caliper carrier have "506" marking)

2. e46 325/328i caliper bolts - 34203414763 - (x4)
3. e46 325/328i brake pads - 34216778168 - (x2)
4. e46 325/328i rotors - 34216864056 - (x2)
5. rotor screws (M8x14) - 34211161806 - (x2)
6. z4/e90/e92 hubs - 33416752381 - (x2)
7. e30 rear wheel bearing - 33416762317 - (x2)

Brake M/C need to upgrade, since this setup use bigger caliper pistons diameter...
--> e28 520i brake M/C (23.81mm, non stepped bore) - 34311153053 - (x1)
If not, you will get deeper pedal feel and brake bias 60/40..
-- OR --
--> e32 735/750i brake M/C (25.4mm, non stepped bore) - 34311156643 - (x1)
With 25.4mm brake M/C, you will get shorter pedal feel than 23.81mm one


You need Left hand tap M16x1.5 to do mod on stock e30 knuckle/spindle
