in doing a little research, i came across this eBay ad. i think this could be a viable option for bmw v8 engines. this adapter is 190.00, the booster can be purchased for less than 150.00 new. the slave cylinder they recommend is 21.00 at advance auto parts. all thats left to do is fabricate a bracket to run an oem clutch master cylinder for the brake, make an adapter for the oem brake master, run the 2 hydraulic lines between the booster and ps pump, a line between the master and slave, and the front and rear brake lines. i think this setup is viable for less than 600.00. i also think this will provide much better braking than the booster less wilwood setup.

Do you want to move that unsightly hydroboost unit from the firewall on your custom machine?

The Hydroboost relocation kit by Technical Design Services is a precision fabricated system that works with an off-the-shelf slave cylinder, engineered for the DIY mechanic that will save you up to $1,000 compared to other available products.

This kit is designed to remote mount the hydroboost unit and master cylinder.
Mount the unit anywhere space allows and run a single hydraulic actuator line to it, just like a hydraulic clutch.
The mounting feet provide 1" of clearance under the unit as positioned in the factory orientation.

yes, sikky does indeed use this unit with 2 custom brackets. they are all about the LS engine. since they are able to use it, i would suppose you could as well if you chose. perhaps you simply don't want to incur the 1300.00 expense of what sikky sells? some things are well worth what you have to pay for them.

i would bite the bullet and pay the price they ask except i am running an s62. they don't think it will fit and neither do i. i offered to do a little r&d work for them in this respect. we will see.....

here is another possibility more along the lines i am thinking of. who says you need to have the booster on the firewall? this will enable you to put it anyplace you wish. even the trunk i suppose.

That is a unit out of a 94 Chevy Astro. I have done tons of research on it and you can mount it anyway you would like the issue is the thing is way too big for the way my mounts are setup. I understand the BMW unit is a bit more complicated but it is doable I don't see why you can't T the return back to the ls resvoir. Sikky's hydroboost kit basically uses the chevy unit with custom adapters

that is actually a cardone unit you have in your hand. you have it upside down by the way. you can rotate it about 120 degrees clockwise and it should work for you. for some reason, i am told the ports need to be toward the top of the unit when its installed. i would suggest using that over the bmw parts.

you are going to need 2 custom brackets. one for the firewall side and one to match your bmw master cylinder.

the advantage of this one is that it only uses two pressure hoses instead of 4 and it uses only one return hose instead of 4. you also don't need to find a place to mount the remote accumulator either since it is built into the unit.

Can you fit the hydrobooster with that V8 swap?

It's out of an 80's 7 series so should be the right one...but ain't nobody got time for 24v swaps.

Edit: It's out of an e32 so it is the longer version but shouldn't be an issue for what I need it for.

Indeed, the e23 hydrobooster is about 1" shorter in the engine bay, and 1" longer in the cockpit.

by the way, that unit looks like it was out of either an e24 or e28? if you are using a 24 valve engine, this setup is not going to work for you. it sticks out too far as is written in the text above. look for an 80's 7 series e23. see the pic massive lee posted above.

i just recently came up with a better idea. the Cardone hydroboost unit. it is very small and compact. the accumulator is already integral with the unit. you only need a pressure hose in, a pressure hose out, and a low pressure hose that goes to the reservoir. everything else is self contained.

best of all, this unit came on many domestic vehicles such as the diesel pickups(my own f350 for example) and the chevy astrovan of which there are many of these in junk yards.

the unit will need custom machined adapters on both ends but i think it is a much better solution than bmw.
