just trying to get some confirmation on what im seeing on my 318is. I noticed today that my car has made a click noise randomly when starting off and stopping. I thought it was something loose in the front left caliper. sounded exactly like a pad shifting in the caliper.
the wheel bearing crossed my mind as well so i grabbed that front left wheel and shook the hell out of it like you would when you do a simple tech check at an autocross. it didnt have any play or click sound. I got home and jacked up the car and sure enough, i had play in the wheel! for a second there i thought i just had loose lugs, lol, but i pulled the wheel off and had a smaller amount of play grabbing my extended studs and shaking it(must be the leverage i have with the wheel on to get more play?)
Having autcrossed a 4th gen Fbody for several years along time ago, its exactly what happens when the wheel bearings go out, lots of play when you tug on the wheel. funny thing is, on the road, it doesnt make any howling or rhythmic noise at any speed.
