Real Rear coilovers

The spring OD is 2.6875". I just mic'ed it. I did get everything from the same place, a speed shop in Arkansas called Southwest Speed. They have a website, www.southwestspeed.com AJ has good pricing and a ton of stuff. I've bought quite a bit from him for my E30 build. I could probably come up with part numbers for all of the individual items, PM me if you want them.

As far as the E30 M3 vs. I6 Z3 rear hubs, I can't say as to whether or not 1 is better than the other for the coilover setup. I would think that any advantage gained in hub offset would be equalized by the corresponding correct wheel offset. Obviously, the Z3 setup I'm running pushes the hub towards the outside further than the OE M3, but you use a lower offset wheel, so there may no real advantage to either setup. The inside of the wheel may end up in roughly the same place. Dunno, until they've been compared. Hope this helps you out, LMK if you need any other info...

An other question what are you using in the front? Do you have an e36M3
setup up front?

I'm wondering if I can use one of their threaded adjusters in the front like
the ones in the GC kit. If I can do that then only camber plates and RSM
would be needed.

if you do that then your going to have to worry about what offset wheels you run in the rear + fender rolling

With the same setup than Garey I would easily clear both set of wheels
that own right now.

shock/sleeve/spring? Did you buy them all together from the same supplier?


The GC rear coilover setup is 3.25 OD. If I can do better...

Look through my build thread, as I have full coil on spring conversion on my E30. I used the Bilstein SG 6020 shock, which is designed for a sleeve to be added to it. It's a 36mm OD shock and the sleeve/adjuster uses a 1 7/8" ID spring, which is as small of a spring, diameter-wise, as I could source. Clears my 8.5" wide style 42's, ET 41 with a 245/40 tire by 1/2" with no spacer, using the I6 Z3 hubs in the rear.

You would need to run a softer spring than you would in the original location due to a change in the moment arm / leverage.

My stock 14's clear the spring as well. Haven't tried any aftermarket wheels yet

Well I measured and with 16x8.5 et19 the center of the shock is 2.5" from
the wheel I don`t plan to go any wider... Anyone knows the diameter of
the rear GC coilover kit?

yeah a guy here in Perth may chime in (i think is nick is xx17xx on here?), but he bought full coilovers for his Touring and ended up having to run the spring and shock seperate as it hit the wheel.

i asked GAZ suspensions and they said just upgraded upper mounts and a strut brace if you want would be enough on a Coupe but i'm not sure on that :/

The problem isn't with the structure, a full coil over usually will hit the wheel. It also throws the suspension geometry off.
