Just a Couple E30 Newbe Questions

Edit: After posting this I did some more research, and some wrenching, and was able to come up with a couple answers. However, I'm still wondering about the large washer that comes with the JOM/Stagg front strut inserts...

I'm gonna get quality coilovers this summer, but I'm trying to get by until then.

First, I picked up some JOM coilovers, and the front inserts came with a spacer that may go under or on top of the insert. Anyone know if I need it? The inserts feel firmly in place, and the the threaded nut tightened up properly.

Second, What kind of oil do I put in the strut tubes? I suppose this is to keep the strut insert from seizing in the tube.
Answer Per Bentley:Engine oil of any viscosity can be used 20-25 ml is recommended. It(the oil) transfers heat from the shock to the housing.

Third, I've ready that some of you guys modified your E90 top hats so they are flat on the inside so the strut bearing will rotate freely. Did anyone take any pictures?
Answer: The insert in the E90 hat is only pressed in. I popped it once with a punch and hammer and it came right out.

Thanks for the help in advance.
