Can someone school me on hubcentric rings?

I know very little about how they work, and what type of wheels they will work on. I recently picked up a set of wheels that have odd bore center circles. 2 of the wheels have an approx 63.5mm bore, and one other with approx 70mm bore.

From my understanding E30s uses a 57.1mm bore, so as I'm searching for hub centric rings that I can adapt to these wheels...the only ones I can find that are relatively close to the 63.5mm ones are in actuality 64.1mm (plastic ones). Would I be able to make these work or is the difference of 0.6mm really going to prevent me from doing so.

Lastly, can anyone tell me how the ring is actually seated in the rim? I had a set of BBS's on my old Audi, and I vaguely remember the rim having a sort of step lip to keep the hub centric ring in place. The wheels I recently got doesn't have this (its just a smooth circle cutout)....so I wasn't exactly sure how the ring would stay in place.

    Thanks in advance!
