Think about the price difference between the two, then think about what youre gaining with a 225. Or i should say, what youre losing.

225/50, bro. You are not low enough for rubber band tires. I have a feeling you prefer man sized meat anyway.... (ahem)

205/50/15 or 225/45/15 only look ok-ish on a slammed car.

Yes. 205/55 is the proper size.

I guess they are 9/10 of an inch smaller diameter than stock...

Starspecs are available in 205/50 15, there's a lot of good tires in that size but they will be 23" tall, as will 225/45. The only good 15" sizes that are 24" overall (stock OD) are the 205/55 and 225/50, both of which have pretty limited selection.

I'm picking up toyo r1r's today...they seem to be a good compromise between a street and track tire

The article in GRM showed differently. I'm not a subscriber anymore so I can't link to it, but they showed the variances in contact patch. In their tests the larger tires went slower.
