    205/55-15 or 215/40-15 for the E30 325i coupe?

Which of these will provide superior handling and steering response for my 1990 MT coupe? It has M3 springs and Bilstein struts. Right now it fits both 215 and 225 sizes.

225/50/15 or 205/55/15 are the correct diameter tire for your car.

Out of the only 2 correct choices, both posted by Matt above, I'd go with 225/50r15.

Thanks, Matt. I'm curious why the 215/50/15 wouldn't be appropriate if the 205/55 and 225/50 are. I checked the 215/50 out on the tire comparison calculator and it's only off from OEM by 1.1%.

BTW, I'm new to the BMW world and so far I've found this site to be the most helpful of the various BMW sites. I get good response to my inquiries and I almost bought a car from someone here. Now I'm looking at some wheels from someone here. I just bought my first BMW: a '90 325i coupe (with M3 upgrades) with 125K for $5200 from Florida (off ebay). If you tell me how to post pics here I'll put some of them up.

The 215 50 15 would work but the availability of the tire is much less. Although 1/2 inch too small.

I didn't notice you mention 215/50. I only saw 215/40 in the thread title.

215/50 wouldn't be bad, but there are more tires available in 205 and 225. And if you can fit 225's on it, why not go that route?

(I couldn't figure out how to change the typo in the title.)

From what I've heard the 225 does better on the track/autocross but the 205 gives you better handling/steering response on the street--and somebody else said better acceleration, too. I'm not sure that I'm going to the track but I did buy the 325 for 'spirited' road driving. I have noticed that the availability of 215/50 choices is limited. Why do some say the 225s are better for the street?

the only reason to go with 225s on a street car is for "baller status"

get something nice and grippy in 205/55 and you'll be fine. they also happen to be cheaper..

                  funny but true.
                  225/50's are cheaper than 205/55's.

                    I use 205/15/50 (on 15x8's), but that's personal preference.
