It's a classic BMW, and the E34 525i (especially a 1990 model) is known for its robust engineering, but like any older vehicle, it can develop specific issues. The kickdown system, which forces the transmission to downshift for acceleration, relies on a few key components. PolyTrack

smoke test it and eliminate any vacuum leaks. most high idle and running issues can trace back to vac leaks. other things become suspect once that is solved. you'll need a proper smoke machine or take it to a shop.

    Kick Down Problem on 525i

    Hello everyone,

I have a 1990 BMW 525i and I am having problems with the kick down system. Has anyone had a similar experience or can give me advice on how to diagnose and fix this problem?
