    E30 or E28

Been looking at E30's, but man, I have to say, the E28 is a beautiful machine. Never driven one, but I might be looking at this one just out of curiosity.

Anyone here with both an E30 and E28? How do they compare? Apples and oranges I'm sure.

    Nice car, wrong engine.

I t will feel slow as hell. I do love the e28 though.

Unfortunely, you missed the 535is that was just at the Speeds Towing Auction down here in Portland. It went for just under 2K, and was pretty good shape.

You really will want to find one with an M30.. The chassis is just made for the extra grunt the M30 has to offer. And if you really get in to the E28, rare parts can be had for cheaper than rare E30 parts these days (E30 tax yo!)

Heck, you can still find people almost giving away E28's still.. Though, usually they are M20/Autotragics, but still..

I saw that one the other day when I was working out there. Wondered how much it would go for.

A little rough. And an eta.

cost wise - e28 has the edge, as others have pointed out
style wise - both are great. the e28 US bumpers are f*ckin gross! euro bumpers are a must so put that in the budget
performance - e30 has the edge, but with suspension work and a fresh m30, the e28 is fun too!
quality - I have never owned one, but from friend's cars it seems the e30 got a slight overall bump in quality compared to the e28
reliability - both are great. for the e28, the m30 is crazy reliable, at the cost of gas money.

i considered an e28 too when looking for a car recently, but the better performance/handling keeps me in the e30 camp.

...have raced an E28 before in Chumpcar with a Euro M30, it was a torque monster! Much more than my PRO3 car. And once you get them dialed in, they are great race cars. The only issue I can think of was we had a broken steering gear mount for who knows how long, but once we discovered it and got it welded up, it was great!

I'd say get an E28 if you want to drive your friends around in something rad and get an E30 if you like fun small cars. I agree that the Euro E28 looks better.

That E28 is alot more money than most would wanna spend (especially on an ETA). But i absolutely love them. I like the E28 for its practicality, and honestly think it has better looks than the e30 at times (it HAS to have euro bumpers). LS swap it and call it a day

At no point should a Chevrolet engine ever reside under the hood of a BMW.

I never get hung up on that "it should only have the same engine from the same manufacture.." If someone wants to toss a 2JZ in a Bimmer, who cares. They are still car people...

Besides, the X3 used a GM transmission, so even BMW was fine with Government Motors parts in a Bimmer.
