Around here, if you can find a good E30, it's almost always never on Craigslist. E36 are all over, and are, well, crap. The few E30s on CL are either beat to hell or in great condition, and are priced well among E36 examples.

Craigslist is a good place to get cheap e30's with potential though.

I just recently sold a 3.5 HFM to a guy who had been parting out his E36 M3 and suddenly found a buyer so he needed parts again fast. He was moving, and selling it for $3500. Admittedly not in the best condition, but a good example of how inexpensive they're getting.

any answer is just speculation... but I'd say that its the style... they newer BMWs look like alot of other cars on the road... to me the e36 always looked like a civic from behind..

the e30 has the classic style that most associate with a bmw.

Also age has alot to do with it. E36 are due for every major repair by now being average 15 years old... where as the e30s that are still around have past that point and have had all the work done.
