Take the hinges and move them from at the very front of the car to behind the front wheels. Enjoy your improved corner weights. Makes sense to me.
Are there any aftermarket hoods that open like "normal" cars?

Please allow me to apologize on BMW's behalf for not engineering their chassis to drop a japanese motor in that wasn't released for another 5 years.
Yeah, letting your battery drain with the doors locked is a situation no one's likely to be in. Who leaves their doors locked when they leave their car parked for a long period of time anyway. That's like making an example out of me losing my keys and having to drive to my great aunt's house because i left a set there when they fell out while i had dinner on her hammock because it was a belated birthday party for my grandma who live 50 miles away and and and and and...
Point is, it's a stupid design.
Yes, no (very egotistical of you though, props), and clearly.I'm unsure why you are so offended about the way that I feel about MY car. Did you design it? Are you jealous of my stuff? I don't understand...
Let's just say I'm an engineer and find ignorance annoying.paint sucksComment

How is it ignorant that I find the front hinging hood annoying? You are defending MY car like I am making some sort of personal attack about you. Please allow me to apologize on BMW's behalf for not engineering their chassis to drop a japanese motor in that wasn't released for another 5 years.

The front hinging hood inconveniences me. I want to change it.
I'm an engineer too. I think it's a bad design. It's cool, it's different, but it's akin to building an observation platform with only 2 open sides.
While there are some advantages to opening the hood forward (like ensuring it doesn't fly open), the point of opening the hood is nearly always to service something in the engine bay. Why would you want to limit the amount of access? Is there REALLY a GOOD reason that I'm missing?
Please enlighten me.
Also, you know you can lock the doors to the exige with a key, right? I do it all the time If I am worried my battery might go dead. I would much rather open the door with a key than jump start the car... so if I am going to leave it for a long time, I'll simply lock the door with the key. The alarm will auto enable.Comment

you're clearly trying to make a joke here.
Please explain to me how how you're trying to draw a parallel between increasing the functionality of a part and putting on lambo doors that not only suck to operate, but are unsafe.
You guys fucking blow my mind.Comment

goddamn kids. With the amount of work going into this car already, why are you all getting hung up on hinges? Check out the build thread in his sig.. this isn't Hank Bukowski asking about it.
I mean, about the only thing left in the car that's BMW is the roundels.. even the trans tunnel has been rebuilt.sigpic89 M3Comment

lol at the other thread in new posts about the hood. I wonder if that would happen with a hood that hinged at the rear and used a prop rod???Comment

first off, I think the old BMW hoods are cool as hell
but if you want to change that, and pull it off, more power too you. I think you should use e28 parts.
everybody, leave him alone. I think its silly too, but so are some of the other stuff we do
and the Lotus has a Toyota engine, its probably more reliable than 99% of other cars1989 cirrisblau-metallic 325iComment

I don't really care enough to write another long-winded response. I couldn't care less what you do to your own car, but (and correct me if I'm wrong here) you are talking down on a design of a car because it's not extremely conducive to working on the front of the motor after you've extensively modified the engine bay. Dude, Hansel the engineer didn't think about you dropping an RB26 in their car when they were designing it. Doesn't make it a poor design. How is it ignorant that I find the front hinging hood annoying? You are defending MY car like I am making some sort of personal attack about you.

And as for why what you're doing is gay, imagine buying a Koenigsegg, then converting the doors to open regularly. It's just a cool part of the car, something that makes it unique, that is a subtle defining point of an old BMW--and you're turning it mainstream.
That's all.paint sucksComment
