Bought a 50" Samsung plasma like 6 months ago. I love it. No complaints at all.

Luke, get a Samsung, regardless of what type of display it is, hands down. I have yet to come across a customer, both from when I was in home theater, and now doing cable installation, that has not liked whatever model of Samsung they've owned. Both of the TV's in my house are Samsung, a CRT flat-screen and a 50" DLP, and both are exceptional. They are by far the most consistently good-looking TV's available for their price range.

I have 50" Samsung Plasma and love it - but I only watch TV, Movies, sports, etc. No video games or PC. If I was using it for what you are talking about I'd go LCD with high refresh rates. For pure picture Plasma is it - but I'd be too paranoid about burn in on the video games.
My plasma does give off a lot of heat - it sits about 2 feet from thermostat and it raises the temp a good 5 degrees!

I've had both and I prefer plasma. Burn in isn't likely and they last longer.

Leds are just LCD tv's with a different backlighting. Most modern plasmas don't have burn in probs anymore due to pixel shifting, and newer tech.
My advise. Get the cheapest 1080, 120hz tv you can afford with the inputs you need at the size you want. The difference between a high end samsung and a low end is software and a different color bezel. A LCD will probally suit your needs better. Espically for a bedroom if you like to keep it cool. Plasmas will emit more heat into the room.

Have experience with both, Plasma (the better ones) have great color and black. LCD is very close 2nd. No experience with the new LED based TVs though.

If it will be used for gaming and PC stuff, LCD all the way. I was in Costco the other day, they had some great prices.

plasma technology has gotten alot better! low memory phosphates used in gas have reduced burn in. anlso the whole 10 year life span has been greatly increased as long as you dont have to white wash the tv due t burn in
they have the best colors and backlightint
however lcd has gotten better as well, i have a sony 41inch z and its wonderful.
120hz is perfect for gaming and sports and the advanced backlightint technology is perfect for darker colors by dimming the back light in that area.

LCD faster refresh rate and contrast? what the hell are you talking about.
plasma has the most natural colours, the best blacks, and no blocking/blur. all this without resorting to fancy technology tricks. LCD has gotten much better, but only by 'patching' its shortcomings with filters, selective darkening, true motion, etc etc.
i have not yet seen an LED LCD. but, comparing traditional LCD to plasma, i am yet to see any LCD beat a good plasma.
burn in issues in plasma are as significant as dead pixels in LCDs these days. shouldnt be a problem.

LCD hands down. When I was making this decision the biggest downfall to LCD was a shorter life. Most places recommended setting the TV to more medium settings.
Most stores turn up the color/contrast/brightness to make it look prettier, I have a custom setting that is a bit "dull" for normal tv watching, and I just hit a button for the "movie" settings when I'm watching something good.

I work for Samsung as a support engineer at the US HQ in NJ. Pm me for anything you would like to know.
In short: Plasma is a dying techology, new LED driven LCDs are the best picture on the market.
