    That depends. For the money that you will spend for an r53, you could build up a pretty BA e30. Granted, the r53 can make more power much more easily than an e30 can, and upgrades are about a dime a dozen. r53s have a ton of torque steer, though, and they tend to be extremely rattly. My e30 on ground controls rides better than most of the hundreds of r53s I've driven. And I'm not exaggerating; I work at the dealer.

    As far as i know the S never got the CVT so that shouldn't be a problem.

    Get the mini, that leaves more E30s for the rest of us.

    from a transmission standpoint, you break a mini tranny, you will be down for months to get the parts shipped over for a rebuild, unless you go back to a mini dealer and give your right arm. then driving that car would be difficult shifting.

    If the option is open to upgrade from a $3k E30 to a $12-15k MCS, go for the latter. It really depends on the type of driving being done though. But, personally I dig the MCS, and with a few bolt-ons you can make them quite bonkers.
