Late model cars also have larger taillights and lower rear fenders. IIRC 98+ doesn't have pop out windows either. -

They all had metal diving board bumpers until mid-88.
Mid 88 until 1991 non-verts all had plastic bumpers.
88 and up was the newer body style, so you will be able to directly swap to plastic bumpers without the hassles you mentioned (cutting + shortening rear bumper), even if it comes with diving boards.
Summary: 1988 and up will either have plastic bumpers already, or be fairly easy to convert to plastic bumpers, with no cutting of the bumper.Leave a comment:

I know an '89 with metel bumpers

plastic bumpers are a direct swap for 88's. Although you may have to drill a few holes for the rear bumper side supports maybe. Someone else will have to chime in on that.Leave a comment:
