you can't start a lot of newer cars without clutch in nowadays anyhow. Should just make parking in gear a habit! Even in flat Texas, I always park in gear.

My first weak of owning a 240sx my biggest problem was pushing in the clutch when i started it. I would always put it in neutral but wasnt used to having to push the clutch in to start it.

i never do this because then i start the car w/o the clutch in it springs forward...

once it dragged me out into an intersection because i had my feet out of the car (it was 110 degrees outside). i was picking my car up at the tire shop and they parked it in gear (i didn't notice since i never do it) pointing toward the street. i reached in to start it and let some heat out of the car, and zoom it propelled itself down a small hill as i held on by the steering wheel with my feet dragging on the ground trying to stop it.... right into a sentra driven by an old lady as a mustang came a few feet away from hitting me (as in my body). $2000 damage to the sentra, an accident on my record, and NO damage to my diving boarded 325e.

embarrassing... but anyway that is why i don't park my car in gear unless i am on a really, really steep hill. i even tried learning to park my car in gear but i had too many close calls with other cars, walls, etc.

That's why you press the clutch when you start the car. And that's why cars have clutch switches now.

I always park my car with it in gear, and it's common knowledge to press the clutch in to start it.

All you guys that start the car without pushing the clutch in or checking to see if the car is in gear first deserve any damage that happens as a result. It's fucking retarded to start a motor vehicle without verifying it's in neutral or the clutch is disengaged.

I have to laugh at the title because my 1.5 year old son loves The Love Bug and Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo. No interest in cartoons whatsoever but would watch those all day long if we let him.

Back on topic, I am in the habit of putting it in 1st and pulling the ebrake each and every time I park. Put remote start on my wife's Civic when we bought it new and disabled it 2 day later, wasn't worth the potential risk cause neither of us could remember to not leave it in gear.

Pureaudio, install a toggle switch wired into the clutch switch, that way if you or your wife park it in gear, flip the switch so when you remote start it, the vehicle won't actually start.

I either leave it in gear, or I use a tire chuck for my Sentra because it has rolled down my driveway, and out of a parking spot before. :)

As for my BMW, if I park on a flat surface, I don't leave it in gear, but I do turn the steering wheel and pull the ebrake. Having a welded differential works wonders when the vehicle tries to move, it just locks up :)

My Dad taught me when I was like 11 to do this, regardless if it's in gear.

My e-brake only works if you it clicks all the way to maximum brakeage. Any less and the sucker rolls. Hilarious as I start it up, realize the windshield is icy, pop the e-brake on with the car in neutral... walk to the other side and start scraping as the car creeps down my driveway
