    Another broken rear window

60 degrees out. defrost was on. Had parked the car, was getting something from the back seat and heard a big POP. Look up and the rear window is broken, with a hole the size of a brick in the middle where glass had fallen onto the rear speaker tray. If I hadn't had previously read this thread, I would have thought a sniper with bad aim was taking a shot at me.

There was a threat of rain, so I got back in the car, drove the 5 miles to home to get the car in the garage, and jump into another E30 and get back to work. Pretty funny as I drove home, glass kept falling out little by little. I looked like Billy Bob to the cars behind me. By the time I got home, most of the glass had fallen out. Car is an 87.

    In better times:

Oh god i can't even count how many times that has happened to me. Pretty much everyday i drive it.

One of my unsolved car mysteries might have just been solved!! One summer, I came out and my freaking window was smashed! I thought it might have been some kids because I was at a school (I could find any impact points; nothing looked like it was thown at it). I also thought it was a lawn crew (again no impact point). It literally was just smashed and I couldn't figure out why.. Just assumed it was malicious.

I'd say pretty rare scenario. I wouldn't NOT use the rear defroster just out of fear of this happening. Good visibility on a day to day basis trumps a very rare case of the glass breaking.
