Interesting euro "Smiley" light info. R and L hand drive.

Recently my 318is was lightly hit in the front right. This required a new front right fender, bumper cover, grill (euro) and one left side euro smiley headlight as the mounting ears broke on mine.

So the body shop takes forever and says they have no problem in getting the parts. So AFTER many e-mails describing the differences in the grill and how to get a headlight I had to purchase the light on my own and of course I had to point out the grill they had was a US grill. Dumb Asses!

Anyway... I bought a euro smiley from a guy here for a good price shipped. Thank you. however when I got it the housing was red, not green like mine. Hmm...... I didn't see any differences other than the coloring. Both Bosch, both the same numbers, lenses look the same. I just figured out that some were red and some were green. So the body shop finishes my car and they did an ok job, I mean, It looks nicer now than it did before.

Last night was the maiden voyage with the family. We went to some friends house for diner and so our 3 year old daughters could play. On the way home I pull into my drive way and I say "Look! I have a BRITISH headlight!" Sure enough, the light pattern of the read housing smiley cuts up to the left. NICE!

We get Anna to bed and I go out to the garage for a little investigative work. I pull the light and have the old one on the bench. I study the two and cant see any differences other than the color. I at first thought that line in the elipsoid lens was in a different spot but no, it's in the same spot! Then I see a little R on the edge of the reflector of the green housing one. Hmm.... So I figure that I'm not going to put it back the same way so I substitute the green housing for the red one and switch the bulb (100W Yellow Stars).

Low and behold! normal cut to the right light pattern!

So does that mean that all red housing euro elipsoid lights are for right hand drive?
