Looks like it was a lot of fun. D90's are one of my all time favorite off road vehicles. Also never knew that new Land Rovers were capable of that kind of wheeling. They sure don't look like they could.

My dad and I did the Land Rover experience a few years ago in his '01 Discovery. Ours has 150k and all we've had to do is reg maint. It's never had a single problem. A lot of the reliability issues seem to be on the older trucks which had lucas electronics instead of bosch.

fuck land rovers our 95 disco is the most unreliable piece of machinery. 4.6l w/ 5 speed tho.

i'm with my sleeve on this one. mud bogging & expedition driving are different animals, the whole point of land rovers is to be able to cover huge distances, without assistance, and in relative comfort. jeeps are a plastic-y, watered down, attempt at what land rover does, nowadays anyway. i'm not talking willys/cj5/cj7, those were devoted off road machines, just aimed at a different market sect. most new jeeps are garbage, imo.

So was breaking down on the side of the freeway part of the 'experience'?

...had it for two weeks, when it suddenly started shooting black smoke out the back, and the engine seized up. Less than 1000 miles on it, for the ultimate lol.

i'm not too familar with land rover reliability issues but it seems to me there may have been some user error here. most people might stop to investigate if their car started spewing smoke, before the engine would seize. regardless i'm sure she ended up driving a nice posh '10 rover loaner while the dealership sorted her car out if it was a manufacturer defect.

i still dissagree. mud bogging is popular around here. bronco II's, toyota trucks, and cj's do the best imo.

Yeah but would you spend 85k or more on a Rangeie just to take it off into the bush to see if you can rip it up????? I know I wouldn't, A 5k dollar Rover or Disco FUCK YES or even a 30K D90 FUCK YES thats what the D90 is for. But not a new RR, just too much money to risk rolling over blowing up something

hmmm wrong. a stock Cj5 with a 3 speed v8 in it will go bounds and leaps further than any stock rover. lol. you must not know a lot about real jeeps.

Defenders will eat them up, stock for stock, There is a reason that in Africa, South America, Much of jungley far east, and the out back of Australia are full of rovers and are the iconic Safari Vehicle and are still being used by many countries military around the world and the Jeep is not. Not to mention the Classic Yota Cruiser, and FJ.

Now yes a CJ5 is good basic and capable off road unit, but that still is not a REAL jeep the only real jeep to me is a Willies everything else is just watered down interpretation of said jeep.

A stock XJ wont go where a Stock Disco or RR or RR classic will go with out hesitation. (notice How I am comparing apples to apples) and the same goes for for a Grand Cherokee wont go where RR or RRc will go with out breaking a sweat.

Again there is a reason there Rovers are all over the worlds most inhospitable places in numbers that dwarf jeeps.

Those Defenders are hott!!! Btw those old range rovers (1980's had the best articulation in their class and had a v8 that had 185hp that weighed less than 400pounds). Landover’s are meant to be conquering the elements instead of being pavement pounders with 24's.

i have discovery 96', it was the Cadillac of suvs before Cadillac made suvs. we live in Washington. in the summer drive the bmw (e30) to Leavenworth, in the winter we drive the land rover. why isn't there a rally in Leavenworth? it is the most Bavarian (German) city in usa. the discovery is great, its older so parts aren't half bad on price.
it cruises at about 70. off road is great, we take it through, creeks, rivers, mud,hills,ect,ect,ect...handles like a champ. i would still rather have a defender though. i think most hondas would bounce off the side of it. every month i check and see if i have any stuck in the wheel wells:)

Would rather be caught pushing a Rover than Driving a Jeep ;)

Stock for stock a Rover (other than like the Freelander or other similar type of rig) Will go places the jeep will never think of going. A stock rover will go may places a lightly built jeep WONT GO. Rovers Really are some of the best off the pavement stock trucks you can buy, Especially the the Rangie's

I know rovers are very capable.

I don't like jeeps, but I really like the moderately older wranglers. They really are an icon, and with the top off they are a blast.

If we are dreaming, though, then it may just have to be an H1 for me.
