Yes, and a certain vert would suit me great out in California. But a certain 4 door is still gonna get me there with more stuff in the back. Maybe I'll tow the vert.

I should also mention that that's not my normal avg mpg. My daily commute finds itself at 24.7mpg

I watch my mpg needle and my AVG MPG on the obc religiously. On long stretches of highway, when you're going between 65-80 mph, it's pretty easy to find a nice sweet spot in which to coast with very little push on the gas. Even in an automatic, like mine.

Just survived her first long distance road trip with me. Brooklyn down to Philly, down to Richmond, VA, back up to D.C., then Brooklyn.

    Average Fuel econimies:
    Highway: 32 mpg
Combined with traffic and city: 26.3......not bad.

Minimal troubles, although a few new rattling noises showed up, and I def felt my tie rods comiong looser. Time to work on that suspension. But altogether, a nice, comfortable and fast drive.

Door to door was EXCACTLY 700 miles ON THE DOT! Not a mile more, not a mile less..700 miles.

Couldn't have picked a better car to do a long trip with. I'm getting her ready for a drive across country, NY to CA.

Took another [shorter] trip this week and found a GREAT road. For those of you in the NYC metro area, check out the Taconic State Parkway, between the Saw Mill and 84. Such a beautiful road. Smooth, fast, 2 lanes, with great curves. Many spots that run through the woods, and lots of fun downhills. Really enjoyable drive.

If I do take this car, I will definitely have all the vitals taken care of before the trip....and then some.
But I might finish the body work out in LA, then give the car a nice life in the California sun, away from potholes, snow, and salt.

Also, I plan on mapping out BMW service guys along my route (preferably from this forum), incase I run into a problem. Couldn't hurt to have some regular maintenance and system check intervals along the way.

There is also the chance that I will sell or store this car, and take something more practical for extended trips. (the girlfriend's idea). So how do I convince her that an e24 is practical for road trips?
That's fantastic, as I plan on doing the same with my e30 when I move from Alberta to Van B.C. (then hopefully to L.A. in the near future)
