My car was also rearended once. And also my oilpan cracked after being hit by steering rack.
Insurance said that something must have been wrong with the car in the first place in order for oilpan to suffer from rearending.
But the damage was bad enough to justify replacing the whole body, and since the oilpan was just a small % of total works, I decided not to argue with the insurance company.
Looking back at that accident - I would expect a cracked oil pan to be one of the smallest problems. Unless you are ok with leaving four tyre marks...
Rear ended, cracked oil pan.

thank you so much!
I haven't checked the frame yet, not looking forward to that.
I just got the motor mounts off tonight with the help of my pops, the motor mounts looked fairly new? no seperation.
I'm definitely going to be looking over my frame.Leave a comment:

I broke my motor and trans mounts with a hard downshift. Separated the metal "plate'/stud from the rubber, so I'd say its not too far off to imagine that a tap from another car could do the same thing.Leave a comment:

325e oil pan wil fit.
Im still in shock as to how no damage was done to your car...only an oil pan.Leave a comment:

So if I shoot you in the chest, is it half your fault that you die for not wearing a bullet proof vest?If I was paying attention:
You have no rear damage on your car?
you knew that your car had suspect engine mounts?
The collision cracked the oil pan due to the whiplash allowed by poor engine mounts would be your argument?
I don't think you should chase your careless friend for compensation.
50/50 fault:) for oil pan involvement.
No rear damage plus good drive train mounts would be no oil pan/engine damage.
If you want $$ from your friend, you should have screamed, grabbed your neck and called insurance last week.

What a brilliant simple idea, haha. I forget to keep it simple sometimes.Leave a comment:

bust out some string.
Have a friend help you out, under the car and outside the car. it's really as simple as checking points across the chassis and making sure they're the same length from side to side and end to end.Leave a comment:

well what I'm thinking is that if I DIDNT have diving boards, the plastic bumpers would've given and just cracked, instead of me having to replace my oil pan.
I'm not sure if anything is wrong with my frame or not.Leave a comment:

Gotta love diving boards....LOL.
I cant believe nothing is wrong with your frame, or something else, if hit at 20mph in the rear.Leave a comment:

My car really doesn't have ANY rust, I've looked:) but yes, I agree, all the years have probably taken a toll.
I did this the first time I changed my oil pan, and there wasn't a problem. I couldn't see the metal inside it, as someone said on the first page that the metal and rubber seperate. I didn't know that before this. The rubber all the way around looks fine, not even dried out. Now, I can't get the motor mounts off.Leave a comment:

To check a motor mount's integrity, simply use a jack to raise the motor by a few inches and inspect each mount. Bad motor mounts are units that have somehow separated. Bad motor mounts will also over extend tranny mounts. Change as a set.Leave a comment:

I mean, they are, but we need to factor in all the years, rust, etc...
all leads up to the compromising of the frame strength.Leave a comment:
