That's for sure! I've wanted one of these for a really long time. When I was a kid there was a doctor in my tiny hometown that had one of these (red also). He wasn't snobby in the slightest and would fly around doing all sorts of crazy shit in it in the snow to show off for us kids who were sledding. I'd wanted one ever since and just happened to find a red one that was in pretty good condition.

So I've got some questions for you e30 masters:
    1) I've got some seriously sloppy shifting going on. It's a 5-speed and the gear lever is all over the place. There is no snap-back to center when pulling the lever left or right. My e21 didn't have this issue so I know it's not normal. It shifts into all forward gears just fine (reverse is a bitch). Is this a shifter issue or a transmission issue? I'm inclined to say shifter, but I'm new to these cars. What should I be looking for or to replace?

    2) I've got a slight shimmy from 55 to 65mph that didn't go away when the previous owner had the tires rebalanced and the car realigned. It isn't brakes because it happens when accelerating through that speed range, not braking. I was thinking it might be the driveshaft out of balance. I also thought it might be the u-joints in the rear, which are showing some very small traces of rust. Another thing I've thought about is maybe a wheel-bearing... What do you guys think it might be?

    3) On the display up above, I've got a couple of concerns. When I first turn on the car, the brake warning light is on, but when I tap the brakes it turns off. The front rotors and pads are new, and the rear pads are new. What might this be?

Also, the coolant warning light stays on in the above display, but I've checked the coolant levels and they check out fine. Any ideas?

Thanks a lot for any help you guys can give me. I'm trying to get this thing back in great shape and get as close to factory mint as possible.

    Thanks again!
    Chris

So, the shipping company never showed. Several days the seller waiting for them to come. I was following up with them by email only to find that a driver wasn't even assigned to the route. So I grabbed the bull by the horns and flew to Reno to pick it up Friday morning. 1,850 miles and 26 hours later I got back to St. Louis with my new baby. I'll be seafoaming and fixing a couple of leaks this weekend. I'll snap some pictures while I work!

Thanks guys! The car gets picked up tomorrow. I've picked up a replacement dash and an iS lip. I'm not going to be doing too much "extra" stuff to the car because I want to keep it as close to original as possible. Pics soon and enjoy the snow if you've got it!

Welcome to another Missouri member! I moved to Kansas City 7.5 years ago, but drive my 325 there fairly frequently. Keeping an eye out for StL meets in the spring.

    Can't wait to see pics!

Welcome and happy motoring/modding on the new iX. Im sure you know you can get a lot of good help and advice on here.

Bimmerforum sucks!!... (Not really, Im just on a tear with them cause I got a warning for calling someone a douchebag).

and yes... I wear my sunglasses at night.
I've got the timing belt and water pump (and appropriate soft goods) sitting in the floor in my office already! I was going to drive the car back from Reno but the guy I bought it from was upfront with me and let me know it needed to be changed in the next 5k. After that I thought it best to have the car shipped instead. 1800 miles would have been a stupid gamble.

I have been looking for one of those cars for a while now. I've seen probably a dozen go up for sale and they just didn't work for me (no documents, accidents, rust, etc).

As far as bimmerforums... I'm a one-forum kind of guy. I spent about a month looking through all the forums before deciding which to join. This one has the most market activity from what I could tell, which will help if I need some parts!

It's a California car with 203,000. Car is fully intact with a functional viscous coupler. I knew it was my car when I found it rust free, unmolested, and with all the service documentation and receipts from the past 21 years. I'll have pictures of the car as soon as the truck gets here.

    Thanks for the warm welcome!
