Am I being unreasonable?

i think the biggest problem for me is that in the eyes of the insurance company, the combination of listed value (low) and the fact that the repairs are on a bmw (high), a fender bender would easily give me a salvage title. for this reason i carry good liability, uninsured motorist, and comprehensive only. i would rather labor-of-love my car through my own pocket while keeping a 'clean' title than have them lowball me and hand me a dirty title too.Leave a comment:

I actually picked up E30 coverage from American Modern as mine isn't a DD. After giving me the run-around looking for the true value of my car and trying to get me to agree to a value much lower than what was out there, they finally canceled my insurance. There are plenty of restrictions. Cant be your primary car (no daily driving). Can't be driven to work (no commuting). Must be kept in a garage. Must be on their list of approved "classic" cars. Many also have mileage restrictions.
I tried to get "agreed value" insurance on my highly modified E30. The book value is maybe $2500, but I have put many times that amount into the car over the last few years. After shopping around, I couldn't find any collector's car insurance company that worked for me. Hagerty seemed promising, but the only E30 they have on their approved list is the M3.
Anyway, it's not as easy as it sounds.
I called them up and talked to a manager there and the ship they run is very sketchy. I was informed of so many ways I would be denied coverage (perhaps just to scare me off). For example, the manager said they wouldn't cover anything but maybe "driving the car to work once or twice", and that was with them knowing that I worked inside a secure location. They also wouldn't cover ANY "errand" stops on the way to meets or for whatever reason. If I was parked at a Wal-Mart and something happened to the car they wouldn't cover it. This was all different than what they told me when I was shopping around and what their website claims.
So, yeah, there's a shit-ton of restrictions and I would only go with someone like Haggerty. Good luck getting their tight asses to give you insurance, though. I really wish there was a car enthusiast insurance option, for people who drive reasonably and care about what they drive and where they leave their car unattended.Leave a comment:

:up:See?? Thats why I am doubtful when I see people sending all this info to the insurance companies. I just imagine them sitting at their desks, calling their overweight, underendowed co-workers over to their desk to scoff jubilantly at your naively and innocently sent information. Fuck insurance companies, its almost not worth having it if it wasnt illegal (which is another fucking racket). They fuck you absolutely every chance they get, and raise the premiums every chance they get as soon as there is any type of incident that may or may not be your fault even if you may have had 10 years of flawless clean driving until that point. Its one of those industries that I consider to be for people who have a deficiency in their soul to work at and succeed at. Comparable to politicians and lawyers. They treat their "clients" with such contempt and lack of respect/consideration that it angers me to hear these types of stories. "I pay your fucking premiums, now give me what my car is worth and stop nickel-and-diming me to oblivion, for fucks sake I PAY YOU! Your not doing ME any fucking favors by doing what your whole industry was created to accomplish!"

They company who totaled my S50 car with GCs and many many other things has offered me 3400 three times. I told them to fuck off an try again each time. Its so bad we've now got the insurance commission involved as well as a local news station.
On top of that I've sent them 15+ pages of pictures, comparable cars, receipts and other things. Still won't budge.

I've often wondered if I should reduce my coverage to liability only specifically for this situation. I'm afraid they'll give me pennies on the dollar for what it's worth and I'll be screwed.Leave a comment:
