I would say 2zj swap. You can buy a manual sc300 for around 1000 bucks then part out the rest of the car and make some money back. The 2zj swap kit(all the mounts) only costs about $200. Then you've just got wiring and the driveshaft to modify. Oh, and with the money left over throw a Big mutherfucking turbo on there. All for 2-3 grand.

OP just get a nice used Viper SRT-10 for around $600-$800 and slap some twin turbos on it (maybe another $300 if you get all new parts.) Easy 1000hp.

i agree with who ever mentions megasquirt..because if you want 500 hp your gonna need the max tuning capability and you cant get that with a chip

Stock DME is capable of over 500 whp, a custom tune will cost over 1k. Go megasquirt if you want to save $$.

Turbo M30, they are dirt cheap. Just slap an MLS, ARP's, big turbo and your good for 500whp and will rape almost anything on the streets. I've eaten modded Z06's and sprayed Vipers in mine.

Listen to this man and look at his dyno numbers. Guys on bf.c have taken m5x's pretty up there in the hp range without failure. I would look there and get Gunni's and Ixer's advice on tech.

such as: M50 M52 S50 S52.... lol

Stock M52 with S52 cams ARP's, MLS 500hp all day long on pump gas then.

Don't turn your daily driver into a dyno queen. You'll spend $2k trying to put down the power. Jesse's 300hp M10 outran Aaron's 430hp M20 at the 1/4 because the M20 couldn't put the power down. Show them someone elses dyno sheet if you want to prove that a BMW can put down 500+, there's no sense in wasting your time.

You can do one of the 4.8/5.3 GM engines CHEAP, and all they need is a cam/tune and are good for serious numbers.

lol im not dick measuring just trying to prove i can make 500 for 2 not caring if its reliable or not, then i said i could make it reliable for 3-7k.... 2jz swap? no ill pass im done doing swaps for a while haha.

i still havnt really found any step by step builds but we'll see lol
