    Help needed in SF Bay Area - WITH PICS

    Hey guys, this forum looks active today and I'm looking for some quick help in the SF Bay Area.

    My post count is killing me here, so I'll try to make up for it with some pictures!

    So I bought this car off someone in this forum last weekend. And I'm in the middle of changing the timing belt, which was squealing. Turns out it was loose because the tensioner doesn't have a spring in it!

    So does anyone have the spring and pin that holds the tensioner tight that I can buy?

    So yea, without that, all these parts I just bought will go to waste...

    Anyway, if anyone here in the NorCal area has some ideas on how to get my grubby little fingers on this spring/pin assembly, let me know. Made a post here but I'm pretty screwed without this spring...

    Also, to make you guys feel better about your own cars, check out this neat surprise I found when I went to take the radiator out!

      I have a spring for a 325e and the tensioner NIB.... let me know if interested.. I'm in Fremont FYI

        is that the same as a 325i? As in, will it work on the M20 motor? If it's the same thing I'll come over right now and buy you some Five Guys if you want to meet on Auto Mall! Otherwise I'll come to your place :)

          Here's what it looks like, I need the spring AND the pin!

          Looks like 1987E30project only has the spring, so it wouldn't really help me out...

            Didn't you get a new spring with the new tensioner? BTW, you only need the spring to set the belt tension. Once you tighten it down it's no longer doing anything.

                I got a Continental timing belt kit that just had a new tensioner, a new belt and a timing belt sticker.

                This is my first time changing a timing belt and I'm a little nervous about how much to tighten them down...

                  Actually Trent, I'm gonna stop being a baby and just do it without the spring. I'll just crank it tight somehow with a screwdriver and tighten that bolt down.

                  No idea why I was freaking about over this. I was considering going to pick-n-pull tomorrow morning to take one out. Wow. No way that's worth the effort.

                    Wow someone is actually doing the important things to a newly purchased cars rather than saving up their paychecks to get rims while everything else is wrong with the car.
