If you're going to daily drive on R-compounds, Toyos are still your best choice. I know a ton of guys who run RA1's on their 2002tii and E30 street cars, even as far north as Quebec.
I've been running R888's on my E30 on the street here in NJ for the last few months. Even in rain and with temperatures dipping into the 30's, they're still fine. They don't do great in deep water, but that shouldn't be a major issue for you in southern California. I really wouldn't worry about it.
As for tire life, they're not going to last as long as a true street tire. But for $80 a corner, you can afford to replace them in 8-10k miles and still come out even.
Bottom line: I would have no hesitation running these on a daily driver in SoCal.
$80 Toyo R888!

I'm very familiar with 888's from a track and spec e30 standpoint. I've tracked them in the hot/dry as well as chilly and damp. but I just don't know if it would be responsible to have them on the street. For that price, and if it were summertime, shit yes I'd daily those. But in the middle of winter, I just don't know.Leave a comment:

lulz. Yeah these are ideal for 15x8s. Mine were under $400 shipped to my door ;)
Apparently these guys (onlinetires.com) buy them by the hundreds and sell them for stupid cheap. I called and asked how long the deal would last and they said at least until the new years, but nothing's guaranteed after that. So get 'em while you can fellas. :p
P.S. they may last a little longer than you think for street driving. But do NOT expect them to last long compared to regular street tires.Leave a comment:

I have this same size and they run very wide. They look identical in size and width to my friends 225/45/15 RS3's. I also daily drive on these tires. They rock in every way!Leave a comment:

They are dumping them cause SCCA is going Hoosier for next season. NASA may follow... BTW these tires are FANTASTIC if you plan on going to the track. They last a fair amount on the street too...drove on a set daily for about 6 months.
I wore them on my turbo e30 when I was still 4 lug. Yes, 205s and 320whp. Very Very manageable. I made a lot of e46 and e90/2 m3 owners cry that day.Leave a comment:

Crazy good deal! Reminds me of a few years ago when I got a set of Bridgestone Potenza S0-3's for $83 each, they were on closeout. Best tires I ever had!Leave a comment:

Not long. I got less than 10k out of my Kumhos, and the Toyos are softer.Leave a comment:
