My parents bought a 3.0 new back in 2004. We sold it with 113k in 2010. Real issues even with the two years I had it thrashing it around and driving on the beach. The two worse things that happened were the throttle valve servo thing had slack in it and the fuel pump disintegrated a month before we sold it. Both BMW replaced on a "good will" basis for us. I loved that thing and would have kept it if it was a stick. The E90 I drive around to replace it has been a slight problem child since new hence the E30. :) -
Damn! Well thanks for the advise. We have a GT-1 here I'll hook it up and see if I cant get the transfer case rebooted on my own first.hahahahhahahaah. that is the transfer case that is bad. they like to make clicking sounds alot too. BMW says it comes from worn tires with different diameters- I say it comes from the transfer case just being weak.
try to have BMW reset the values of the electric motor for the transfercase, it could help, prob not, but maybe.Leave a comment:

A 330xi is almost the same vehicle LOL...the x3 is awesome on maintanence, the x5 not so much.
Cliche, they were close anyway and I had a lot of weight in the rear from eugene to Santa Barbara and back, plus I was driving like an idiot playing with the e39 m5 that was with us. Noticed major cords in the back dropping off friends in sf, so just took care of it there.

My mom has been thinking about getting an '06 with around 60k miles. She asked me about them but from what I saw the maintenance seemed pretty high (from what I read on review sites) I told her shed be better off with a 330xi. She just wants an awd vehicle for the winters around here and I have pretty much talked her into going BMW.Leave a comment:

This
And this,
I just replaced and A/C evaporator in one couple days ago. Pretty durable and tough interiors.(Things didn't break during disassembly)
If I had jet skis or some other type of sporting equipment to haul I could see myself owning one...
And as for SUV...ahem...SAV's they can be fun to drive.Leave a comment:

Waaaaaaaaay higher maintenance...but yeah, nicer inside. Ill likely eventually own one, or a baby range

my parent had a x3 for about a year but recently sold it and went to a 4.4i x5.
I like x3's and all but ill tell you what that x5 gets up a moves if you step on it unlike the 3.0i x3Leave a comment:

we've had a 2.5 non sport since 2005, 120k miles and the sunroof crapped out about 3 years ago. no repair parts, BMW just replaces the whole thing like a cartridge. $3500 job. otherwise have been very happy with the X3.Leave a comment:
