Honestly, you seem like a well intentioned, level-headed kid with a positive attitude about people and life. Fuck all the haters on this board who make it a career to dole out wisdom about how they would have handled the situation differently. I doubt they had half the character and integrity you had when they were 22.... if they're even 22 :)

Like you said, live and learn. Shit happens and you're not ALWAYS going to come out of every situation with the winning hand. People who choose to believe this are just insecure or stupid or both. So hats off to you brother for remaining a sane human being throughout this ordeal and persevering until everything gets resolved. No doubt these are fine qualities that will make you successful in life.

the car i drove in college was a parking lot collision magnet.

i was able to collect a nice check on two occasions and pay my rent + fun money without getting the damage repaired. that's best case scenario in my opinion - except in this case you can get clean used parts, etc. and pocket the extra cash for car fun.

    good luck.

Im not sure how it is in your area but in WA you get to chose the shop and the insurance has no say. They usually issue you a check for what they estimate and if they are a reputable insurance company they will work any extra charges out with the shop you have doing the work.

pick at the hood edges especially the front and rear (towards the windshield). in my experience, body shops underestimate painting this panel as they tend to keep it closed during the painting process.

if they also painted your bumper, once you removed the turn signals, I guarantee peeling and flaking will be there too since they didn't bother with the mouldings.

the paint on the top seam of the driver fender has begun to peel badly. i itemized out the items broken/damaged/unrepaired in the original accident over the phone and they're going to take into account that i saw no money and that the shop was his choice. i guess no updates until then.

Good luck with this, sometimes you can get them to re-fix it. I got an appearance allowance once when I had work done on my truck; they couldn't work on a panel to pop dents because of a rust bubble.

He's sixty and it happened at 7:45 am before street sweeping at 8. I doubt he was drunk.

When I called him on the 27th about the broken grills he got upset and refused to cover them. I guess he went and called his insurance company and told them he hit me but paid me out. They called me this morning to verify the information and I told them the paintwork done was subpar and he never gave me a penny, everything went directly to the shop. Now they're sending an adjuster out to look at my car and assess remaining damages.

Me, I'm no roll model, so I would have gotten justice the night of delivery of car.
Tools would have gone missing, aircraft striper on other customer's car, flat tires, scratches whatever it takes. Hurt them in the pocket, if they refused to do what's right!

Right, I'm Italian. Bring it back to the old school mob roots hahaha. I don't think I would go that far, but I probably would have bribed the fuck out of the original guy that hit you to keep quiet lol, a hit and run is no laughing matter and a BITCH in court. And if you would have gotten a toxicology report on him, OMG fuhgettaboutit. You know he was under the influence of something at the time, he just wanted to get out of there and deal with it when he was sober-with no police involved. You could'a had some CCW's haha-no but seriously.
