joey will definitely lose, bcuz auto.
but even then im sure dk would win because nice m42 with ITBs iirc.
both m20 and m42 are pretty outdated engines compared to modern times, m42 has more valves and less weight which in my book is a win when being modified for power/weight.
not only that but m42's have more engine bay space for tarbo charging. and ive never heard of an m20 being SC'd.
with that being said id much rather have a bad ass m20, because i dont care about going around a corner fast, i care about having fun getting to the corner and trying to kill some tires on the corner.

I likewise. This is obviously a heated debate that can easily be ended by simply running a 318is and 325is together and seeing which one is faster. Not for cash, bragging, honeys, or pinks, but for SCIENCE!
Brandon was referencing a previous "A+" thread on r3v.. Can't seem to find it though

I cringe when good M42 318is get swapped. Save it for the 4 doors or 325e's
If you need to swap an M42, your driving the car wrong. I used to drive an M40 powered wagon (105hp, heavy shell) and had smiles every day.
I would love to tinker with an M42... it's pretty much a 2/3rd's M50. stick an M47 crank, S50 rods and pistons making 2.1L. The euro S50 itb's fit up to the head nicely, seams like a fun little motor.

You poor m42 guys just won't admit it though

I'm not saying one is better. I'm saying they're basically the same. If you're going to keep the factory engine, pick your poison (like I did)- a little more power, or a little more corner speed. Pretty simple.

All I'm getting at is the ignorance that people believe stock for stock 0-60 m42 is faster than m20. There is no way in hell that is possible.
That being said, I would more readably swap an m20 car than an m42 car because the m20 is so dang heavy and doesn't have a power output to justify its weight
