How would they know it doesn't work? Unless you take an inspector or whoever if anybody checks your car out for a test drive.
2,000-5,000 miles a year you say? But my car has never left my garage ;)
Modified cars can't be historic? Goddamnit!

Well, $119.
If I wanted to swap out my plates for a less offensive/awesome one I'd have to pay an additional $29 for replacement ones. Vanity tags are only $20 more than regular ones anyways.Leave a comment:

Ralph Nader, I presume?
$120/year for vanity?
...and I bitch about the $49/year I have to pay.Leave a comment:

I tried to do historic in IL and was denied because of mileage. I asked about driving in winter which was apparently a red flag.
Regardless, I pay $120/yearly for my vanity tag. IL is emissions exempt for anything older than 1994.Leave a comment:

You need to take a ride up to Western Maryland. These idiots will ruin it for everyone.I'm not saying I'd be opposed to a VERY basic inspection. But then again that's a slippery slope too.
I'd rather a few people take advantage than ruin it for everyone.
Using historic tags to get a unsafe vehicle on the road is one thing. Using them to keep costs down while driving an old vehicle is another.
Most people don't want to be a danger to themselves or others, of course there will be some idiots.Leave a comment:

have you seen some of the junk in Maryland with historic tags? There are full size trucks with rusty frames that the truck is bent in a V and the top of the bed is rubbing aginst the cab!How is that abuse?
Condition should not matter. You are helping the enviroment by driving a vehicle that was made 20 years ago vs driving a new vehicle and all of the emissions that go into building it.
Historic should be just that, historic. Who cares what condition it is in.Leave a comment:

Ummm.... It's in Zombie mode now, you know, back from the dead.
Rusty Slammington, a car that is either absolutely loved, or absolutely hated. There was never any middle ground between those two camps. To some, it was a blasphemous hunk of metal that should have never existed in the first place, to others, it was pure inspiration. It’s a car that has seen countless phases in its life. …
Edit: Can't seem to find any more info after that... So... maybe killed it with fire.
Yup, It's dead apparently.
Mike Burroughs is one of those BMW fanatics, but not in the sense that you might think.Rather than rocking E46 or E92 M3s, Mike’s all about the classic BMWs, having built the infamous E28 5-Series, dubbed “ Rusty Slammington“, that unfortunately became a casualty when Burroughs’ garage burnt down. For some people, that would be heartbreaking enough to get themselves a dull daily driver, but Burroughs decided to go way back to his roots, finding this 1971 BMW 2800CS and making it his. Thanks to a friend that spotted it on Craigslist, Burroughs headed down to Atlanta with cash in hand to purchase the 40 year old car.Last edited by Exodus_2pt0; 03-25-2013, 01:04 PM.Leave a comment:
