Hearing shit like this is legit scary. I never realize how small of a town I live in until I hear shit like this. In the parking lot of an Olive Garden? Holy shit.

How does that work? I'm not familiar with that.
Verizon adds the EMIED(also known as ESN) or other Unique serial for the specific radio in the cell phone to a database. That way when someone wants to activate it again, it comes up in the database as stolen/cant activate etc. Basically a way of bricking the phone on the backend.

You will see alot of ebay or craigslist say "CLEAN ESN" which means it will activate for whoever purchases it. Just a way of saying "not stolen" if you ever want to buy a phone off craigslist, you can call the carrier with the ESN to make sure its not stolen before you buy it, that way your not buying an essentially bricked unusable phone. Smartphone becomes a palm pilot basically since it cant get data or service anymore :p

Sorry about your loss! My brother's Honda Fit got broken into a few weeks ago. The guys were pure asshole and clever but didn't get what they wanted. The cut a portion of the front bumper to unlatch the hood so they can disconnect the battery so the alarm doesn't go off, then smashed the little window in front of the side mirror, unlocked the car and started searching for the wheel lock key. He has Rota Slips, I don't know why they wanted them. They searched the WHOLE car, even ripped apart the carpet, but they weren't successful. Most of his shit was left outside, but nothing was missing. The window ended up costing $105 total with the window itself and labor.

I'm worried now.. I leave my iPod right in the nook up front in the E30 damn near every day. You can't see into my car with the tint and front sun shade but I crack my windows...
My deductible for comprehensive is $500(i think cheapest it goes is $250 if im not mistaken), so since the window was less than that, and they don't cover cell phones,(i wasn't going to claim that anyways since Verizon has its own insurance for that) i paid out of pocket for it.

As an update, the guy turned on the phone on Saturday, i got emailed pics from the front facing camera, but it was pointing at a ceiling(guess he sat it on a table while it was turning on), and phone got wiped a moment after that, so no pics of the perp :( but the serial is red listed so it cant be activated ever again, and all my data is wiped so im happy. Pics of the guy would have been awesome though, and entertaining for the forum :p

Sorry about your loss dude. Glad your window was replaced. In4pics of said asshole. I know how it feels, my car was parked out at a shop to get the ebrake cable replaced quick in PA before I moved down to FL, and the car was broken into and stripped. Lost head unit, is sideskirts, is lip, shift boot, shift knob, and misc parts gone that were also in the car. GL on finding who it is!

    This sucks,

I know how it feels, left my 88 IS unlock it was mine and my daughter and we were trying to get out of the rain, they stole a worn out Alpine with no display, and a dead microswitch on the "UP" volume, suck to be them when they hook it up, because if you weren't careful you went from 1-28 in a nanosec, LOL

Then at the same house, once every 3 months you could see the hand and face prints on all the windows on all our cars, 2 DD Nissans and a Envoy XL, just beacuse of this problem we had tinted windows and I always kept the sunshade up, so no light would light up the interior, can't see whats in there, can't steal it!!!

Moved to a bigger house on a acre, have go cart and dune buggy style cart and my daughters KLX110, all 3 got stolen from our yard in January, got both carts back, can't find the 110,

    more later

Sucks man, at least they only broke the glass. Last time my vehicle was broken into they did $2k worth of damage trying to pop the door handle and pry the door open before finally smashing the window and grabbing my stereo.

You'll find glass forever. No helping it.
