Just replaced mine with the spare that was in the trunk when I bought the car. Before I tightened the bolt down that attaches the metal piece to the hood then to the body, I tested it and it started to fall just like the old one. but once I torqued the bolt down and got it all lined up it worked

I replaced mine with an OEM hood strut and it works great now.

the fucking thing is 10 dollars at guten parts. Just buy a new one. I did and it made a huge difference

Apparently that isn't the r3v way. Replacing that shock is one of the favorite things I've done to my car.
