I use a broken shovel handle whenever I'm doing something that will move the car around, or when I've got it on ramps or stands. I've also had wind close hoods before, so I'm very careful about it.

You can also tighten the nut that is on the pivot point. Takes a couple seconds with a 10mm.

If your cheap asses don't want to spend a whole $25.00 for a new one, just lock your vise grips on the old shock shaft., Works perfectl every time. ;)

Replace the 20'sh year old hood shock with a new OE part.

Just put a bend in the shaft. It won't fall down again. On the other hand, it will be harder to close when you want to.

I've got a friend that just lost 3 fingers (pinky, ring, middle) and most of his left hand from a freight train. Making me extra extra careful around power tools and heavy metal objects and the like.

I've got a spare that came with the car. I'm gonna mount that on there tomorrow and see if it does any better.
