well thats a first for me, never seen that, and I've lurked under cars for over 20 yrs. Glad no one got hurt -
E46 rear springs do the same thing. Also, OP, Canada? I'd think that would have to play some part in the spring breakage.

From what he told me, the spring broke and was resting on (or jammed into) the tire. It's getting fixed tomorrow so I'll find out more then.
The car drove fine aside from slightly pulling to one side... Nothing scary or dramatic.
These cars seem to have weak springs because he had one of the rears break recently too. The car has ~90,000 kms (~60,000 miles).Leave a comment:

Looks like the tab that retains the spring on the strut tube bent and let the spring out. That's the first time I've seen that.Leave a comment:
