How Does This Community Feel About The New Direction Of BMW ?

I'm not sure why you guys are saying "if" they make a front wheel drive car. The new 1 series will be FWD.
As far as the direction of the company is going they are doing what has to be done and making nice cars. They make cars for the mass market to pay the bills but they still manage to make a few fun cars for the modern enthusiast. In the future I could possibly see myself getting an M4, M235is, Z4sdrive35i or something along those lines.
I currently own an 2011 E82 and it is a very nice car. I'd hate to say it but in all measurable ways it is better than my E30. I wont be giving the E30 up because I want something cheap to own and something that I can modify.

New BMWs blow pretty hard but since this is a troll thread nobody's opinion matters anyways.

We could sit here and argue all day on how BMW has lost its touch or whatever, but at the end of the day, they did make something that is still appealing to us, otherwise this forum wouldn't exist.

I'm an old-car guy. The new BMW cars no longer do it for me in the fun department. In the comfort department, I'll pick a new car all day.
But then again, most of us here have 2-10 cars on average. I don't mind a new bmw for comfort dd duties and 3-4 fun-cars/weekend warriors (this category includes e30s, 2002s, old m3s and m5s, old Porsches (early 911, 930,964,993)).
I'm a 2002 guy more than I am an e30 guy. I just enjoy them more. Now when I acquire my Porsche, then I'll be a Porsche guy too.

Im pretty sure if you made this thread 25 years ago, everyone would be like fuck BMW these days, they lost their way after the Isetta!
Love how everyone forgets the e30 pretty much set the definition for the yuppie mobile and was the go to car for all your sorority sisters.
BMW hasn't lost its way, you guys are just stuck in the get off my lawn mindset.
That being said I just bought a restored e30, because I like how it looks and feels. By all ways and means modern BMW's are indeed superior driving machines, but we all have our preferences. Theres a difference though in doing what I did compared to having your head in the sand and just saying the new stuff sucks.

BMW hasn't produced a car that interests me in the least since the E31. The new stuff is not the "Ultimate Driving Machine" its the Ultimate fancy tug boat. Too big, too heavy loaded with crap I don't need or want that will just break can cost big $$$ to fix, and then it will fail again.
I don't care what BMW does as long as they still produce parts for my M3. I'll never buy one of their cars new.
Will

I love my E30, but as a toy.
My 2012 328xit is a much better car, in all aspects, then my 88 m3. 95% of the time I would much rather drive my wagon than my m3, but that 5% is a helluva lot more fun when I get the chance.

The 135 is a really great car too. I love mine, but it will be the very last car from BMW I buy. Im going to sell the 135i when its out of warranty, because its impossible for me to work on confidently.

One of my good friends has an LCI E90. It's a really nice car. It's fast and it's comfortable. But (as discussed ad nauseam in other threads) it doesn't have any soul. It feels... sterile. Almost clinical in its approach to what it does and how it does it. The E36 he had before it, even though it was disintegrating from the inside out, had soul.
I went to a ride & drive at the local dealer last year to spend some time behind the wheel of an F10, and was completely nonplussed by it. Again, it was a nice car, and was feature-packed, but it didn't stir any of those "I've got to have one of these" feelings.
My work colleague's E46 M3 doesn't either. The last car to give me that feeling (which I haven't owned yet) was an E39 M5. Granted I haven't driven the F10 M5 yet, though it's still not affordable for me - at least right now.

I think that they have strayed enough to the point that I like the new CLA250 better than the F30. It is the first merc that I have ever concidered on purchasing...and it was an auto. Makes no difference to me what BMW does because after the warranty is up (on any new car) most owners are going to be without a paddle when something breaks.
