Right away I can tell that cars been repainted, and I'm guessing cheap too due to not removing the door handles, I wouldn't doubt if it was hit as well due to that crappy good alignment and replacement front valance, missing bumper trim piece. Check if the vins match and go from there, if they don't look for frame damage. I would say stay away OP

because ive always liked the e30. i love the design of the car. and dont get me wrong i loooove my e36 but i just really want an e30. and yeah that e30 looked sketchy so im looking around for another still. hard to find in indiana.lol

i have dinan bolt on upgrades but nothing crazy. just ecu chip, transmission chip, dinan throttle body, high flow cats. basically it in the performace department. my wheels are 17x8.5 et13 with 205/40's. with the typical H&R/Bilstein combo. but yes its more the look than performance.

If youre talking abount an E30 (though i suspect youre referring to your E36)... the 17x8.5s should do okay on an E30, and look pretty good. On a E36, you have a significant gain in performance of probably a solid what? 15 hp gain maybe over stock? However, with an E30, keep in mind it takes more performance upgrades and money to seriously impact performance. If you want a car that you can make cheaper horsepower with, stick to the E36 There are stories of guys spending 1-2 grand to squeeze 20 extra ponies out of an M20. You said that you want more of a looker than a performer, which is fine then. But just beware: its a lot easier to upgrade your DOHC motor in your E36 than it is to mess with the SOHC motors in the E30 (of course, you could always do a motor swap or FI the E30s motor).My 325is honestly doesn't have the performance upgrades your E36 (as I suspect youre talking about) does as of yet (saving up for the H&R race/bilstein sport combo, a substantial brake upgrade to drilled and slotted, some extra engine massaging, 5spd swap, and then about a 13-14psi Supercharger setup). When its done, she'll have plenty o' horsepower, but ill have probably spent serious money on serious upgrades to get there.

E30s are great cars, best 3er ever made, and as far as I'm concerned, one of the best cars ever made, as I must agree with the above. But know what you're getting yourself into on an E30. Youre going from a filtered and pampered package to something much more raw.

From everything I've researched, the best size for these car is a 15x7. Any bigger, you're going to hurt your cars balance and handling, as well as suffering from a loss in acceleration due to the engine having to churn over those massive tires. There are also stories I've heard of tires bigger than 7 inches wide literally damaging the suspension in the front if not seriously upgraded, or if proper modification isn't made. You're doing coils, so you might be able to get away with that and not lose out in the handling and balance department, but I hope you plan or have a few upgrades to slightly up the power to roll those over. It'll look cool as hell, but I'm just one of those that prefer his car to be balanced well.

You'll have great grip with 10 wides, but the weight difference from a 15x7 is considerable unless you get full magnesium or something of the like. I know you want what you want, but I'm just warning you, with the spacer you're gonna need, and the added stress on the suspension, you're likely to wear struts, or at least strut bushings, out faster. I know people have put big wheel/tire setups on their cars like this before, but unless all you care about is the look, go with something a bit thinner, like an 8 wide. I love the 15x7s on my car, it handles beautifully, even on worn out struts, and when I want, she has no issue bringing the rear end around even on a 95% stock engine.

Just a wild ass hunch, but I bet the E36 is severely neglected in mechanical maintenance and probably has a salvage title for whatever reason. Why do I make these assumptions? Because the OP wants to spend his money on "coils and nice wheels" for the E30 instead of being concerned about the overall mechanical condition. Why do I say the E36 has a salvage title? Replaced steering wheel is a first give away and it seems that all the "cheap and nice looking" cars have salvage titles.

oohhkkaayyyy you're wrong. first of all, my e36 is religiously maintained. and has a clear title.so your assumption was waaayyyy off. why do i want to spend my money on wheels and coils? uhhhh who doesnt?? and ofcourse im concerned about the mechanical condition. but i would prefer to get an e30 that is mechanically sound. and if it isnt? thenn ill fix it. im not that guy who puts form over function. sorry if i made it sound that way. but who doesnt like to plan out how they want their car to look? i wont spend money on wheels and coils if a car isnt mechanically sound. my has a quick release steering wheel because i like the quick release steering wheel. i think theyre cool.

I agree but in my experience most people that I've seen go from an e36 to an e30 go back to an e36 in a couple months (if not weeks) because they feel an e30 is "too slow", "too primitive", "too much work", "too old", or can't fit 18s.

This is just from my experience. Knowing OP's motivation will help him determine what course of action he should take.
We all already know e30's are the best 3er ever made.
