If there really did trash the idea of the 1 series I can see 1M's going for the big bucks in the next 15 years because of there rarity. I personally like the 1 series body better as well

Nice commercial, and the evolution continues. I personally would rather have the 2002 over the new 2 series. It is a nice looking car, and the M235 should be a great car for the "new car" crowd.

BMW does this all the time. They did it with the 1 series as well just because the back windows had the Hoffman kink.
Now the 2 series just because it has the number 2 in its name.
Its not like the Ford Mustangs where the entire car is actually modeled around the original design ques of some of the original Mustangs.

To me its more of the new e46 m3 in terms of size and weight. in all seriousness though it would be a badass little daily driver. especially the m235i on a good lease deal.

I haven't driven it yet, but surely the best chassis BMW currently makes.

The 2-series is the 1-series coupe. Except for the 2-series Active Tourer, which is a 5-door MPV.
I do not like the current gen 1-series (click), so I'm happy for the new 2-series. And once the M2 comes out, it will probably become my favorite BMW in production.

So like the 3 and 4 series is the same car, just sedan / coupe. Pretty sure its the same with the 1 and 2 now as well. 1 is a 5 door and 2 is a 3.
but if you go to bmwusa.com the 1 series isnt even available any more...

I like the 1 series a lot more, though.

As a long time 2002 owner, uh, no.

It weighs 50% more than a 2002 and is the same size as an E36 !

Prob not a bad car, but not a new 2002.

If it wants to be a new 2002, it'll have to sell for either side of $30k, be small, simple, easy to work on, very reliable, not overly powerful but peppy enough to have a good time, have access to a pretty large aftermarket...and use a steering box.
