I just picked up a '91 IX because I got tired of doing this...

    Yes, it snows in California.

if I lived in an area that gets so much snow that a IX is needed, I would be worried about moving. not buying a car that can handle the brutal weather

I love my ix for a lot of reasons. It’s an 88' so 5 speed coupe loaded etc. I like that it’s rare, the first awd BMW, and an E30. When I tell people that its awd they look at me like wut?!? I like that most e30 enthusiasts think of it as a utility vehicle, for some reason it makes it all the better when I get complements from them. Most of all I like having the confidence going into a corner that I'm going to have traction whether it’s dry, wet, or snow. Plus plowing the way so my parent's big chevys can get out in the morning always puts a smile on my face. While I have yet to do much for performance upgrades (college student) I like the challenge that the awd system proposes. After getting Juuso's (Jute91) front drive shaft upgrade the only real obstacle is the front diff, which for the power goals of the majority of people stock is just fine, even extreme power goals can be solved (however difficult it may be) by welding in additional spider gears. Personally I think the m20 has more than enough potential to get over the lack of options for engine swaps.

*not plowing but you get the idea haha

I think it'd be too hard on me to see a nice early awd BMW deteriorate from that kind of use & abuse.

I wouldn't mind having an IX.

But, I'd probably put a plow on it. Because 20+ feet of snow yearly.

(And y'all have no idea if I'm serious or not. Bueno)

I like having something unique. Whats not to love about the first awd BMW (and mechanically controlled, not computer controlled systems)??

I have only ever seen two other e30s with these wheels on them so wheel selection is not 'limited'. No spacers on the below photo, just hub centric rings.

I think we established that in my first few posts ;)

The point is, we don't see snow, but we still have Cali e30 nuts that turn up at meets that think they're some kind of elites cause AWD

I just found it funny because we live in a climate where AWD is almost 0% needed

Thus, since there is no equalizing factor in snow, I was wondering if there was something I was missing for these guys preferring the iX
