Keep in mind. mine 1990 325is cost $28,950 then. now that is $54,446. even clean M3's dont sell for that much. let alone a normal e30. i can think of a lot nicer cars id rather have for $60k

Cool idea, but not with the E30. The E30 was a mass produced vehicle that sold millions of units, so what's to stop someone with all that money from buying a used shell and restoring it themselves? Doing kit supercar builds would be more profitable in my opinion.

Don dethlefsen and Ray Korman have the ability to do it, but only do it when they have the pig ready to get stabbed. They have 100+ yrs of combined experience in the trade and even they need the sucker with the open check book to order a full restoration.

I applaud your initiative, and entrepreneurial spirit. But I'll bet you my lefty that it won't be a real business.
You can make a bit of coin while non-M3 prices are in a bubble. Plenty of people pick up a limping e30's with a tired motor, throw some lowering springs on it and some rims, and mark it up to $5-6-7k. Their market is to people that don't know how to lower an e30 and put rim on it, so they pay the price.
You won't find that market here. I'd guess that 80%-90% of members of this fourm doesn't pay for labor on their car. We're only willing to pay for really special stuff. Like a custom door handle. Or a custom valve cover. Something that takes a special talent to pull off.
The only guy that tried to do the "I'll refurb and e30, and sell it like it was new plus what every mods you want" was a guy named Vlad. You can search for him.....it didn't end well.

I'm with Cab on this one. I've done one really nice e30, and I'm in the middle of three 2002s. My base model 1600 from 1971 has already commanded $19.5k in the last 5 months, and it's not even an entirely special or rare car.
The point is, to restore a car correctly, and I mean correctly, multiply whatever you think your budget is by about 3.

Figure out what it costs to completely restore an E30 to bone stock original, and then figure out what people are willing to pay for it.
Dreams = crushed.
This. e30s are sweet cars but they arent hard to find like a 1 of 10 Ferrari model. The cost of completely restoring an e30 would be insanely expensive compared to the actual demand.
Iv thought of doing something like this as well, but more along the lines of a Singer Porsche (http://singervehicledesign.com/) where you take a decent example of the car, and tastefully upgrade and modify the car to bring it closer to modern cars and give it some more style and class.
The fact is that there are almost no e30 lovers with the capitol or will to throw down on a car like that. Its just not the right crowd.
