What's the best way to put it into first?

HA! Nice! ;)
I got over 395K km (237K miles) on my Eta and as far as I know, it's still the original clutch. I've driven the car 168K km since Nov/12 (100K miles)... No problems. Usually when at a light, I'm in neutral, foot off clutch. I wait for the change, then clutch, into first, and my take off depends on conditions, if I wanna go quickly, cars in front of me... etc. Generally, I'm light on the throttle, get the car going and my foot off the clutch as quickly as possible. I'm often a 1 to 3 shifter, so I'll spin her up longer in first. If I'm starting on downhill, I'll try to leave more of a gap between the car in front and cheat by starting in second or even third if I get enough of a roll going.
When I take the car out of gear, I just bump the shifter out of gear anywhere above 3rd without the clutch. I find second doesn't like that so much for some reason. -

I feel like nobody else noticed....I usually just put it in "D" and go.
But no really, I thought this was a discussion of putting it into first. I habitually go from neutral, second, then slip it into first.....instead of just putting it from neutral into first.
I like to tantalize the tranny before going all in.

I got over 150 on mine. I was the 3rd owner and didn't granny it either.
Only replaced b/c the throw out bearing/slave was acting funny. Still a fair amount of material was leftLeave a comment:

Again I got over 120K out of a BMW clutch downshifting for years. They aren't that fragile.Leave a comment:

Just joshin' ya. :)
I usually just pop it into neutral as well if I know I'll be coming to a complete stop.Leave a comment:

I was more specifically talking about when coming to a stop. Downshift/engine brake. Wasn't even thinking about spirited driving, but that kind of just happens and isn't thought about.Leave a comment:

I downshift all the time, because racecar. Although I would rather change brake pads than a clutch.Leave a comment:
