What exactly is TSB 0158-14?

Yeah man, if this were old r3v, there'd be a parody thread already.
But now it's just a bunch of young whippersnappers.Leave a comment:

You didn't offend me at all. We get a lot of kids in here who have their opinion of how things are or should be, and refuse to acknowledge any opposing view.
Many times they flail and flop like a person who can't swim in a 5 foot pool, until they drown via banhammer.
You essentially passed the test by backing off and showing a willingness to listen. I say test as if there's a method to the madness, which I assure you there is not.
In layman's terms, you didn't feed the trolls (too much). And, it turns out you actually may have a chance of getting Toyota to help.
I didn't see any of this coming.Leave a comment:

Thank you so much for your kind words! I know its hard to decipher a persons intelligence on the internet, but haha i know how to read a dipstick. (: Just didnt make sense why it would still show no oil even after doing a fresh 4.5 quarts of oil.Low oil won't cause the engine to overheat. Once it gets low enough that the pump cavitates and loses oil pressure, the engine will seize before it has a chance to overheat.
It's likely that the oil level dropped enough to lose oil pressure, and she didn't notice the light on. It doesn't take long to finish it off. Best advice if you ever hear any abnormal sound (knocking, rattling) is to stop and investigate. If the oil is so low that it isn't showing on the dipstick, it shouldn't be driven without adding. Doesn't help now though.
I agree that the oil consumption sounds like it was abnormal. That said, the reason that Toyota wouldn't do anything is probably because your particular vehicle wasn't covered by the recall, and your mom didn't want to pay for the cost of an engine replacement. I say replacement, because once you factor in labor, the beat financial option is to replace with a new engine rather than overhaul.
I wish you the best of luck, and I admire your response to my posts. I think you will be OK here. I don't think I know everything, but I do have an extensive history in automotive diagnosis and repair. I still do learn new things every day like the rest of us.
It's unfortunate that this happened, but be aware that you will probably get no financial assistance in this matter. I think sometimes insurance will cover it, but is it worth the raised rates? If it were covered under recall, I imagine Toyota would have let you know, as they are required to.
And oh goodness, trying to tell my mother what to do is ridiculously hard. (single mother of 5 and works full time for ups as a truck driver) Lol shes stubbon. So i told told her numerous times to trade the car when i saw that the dipstick never gave a true reading. Knowing that i put new oil in was apparently enough piece of mind for her i guess. Hopefully we get a recall from toyota soon. That guys wife had the same year and model so i believe if theirs is covered so should ours.
Again, deeply sorry for offending you. Thanks for your time bud.Leave a comment:

And with that, learned something new. You may just get it repaired for free. Looks like there is an enhance warranty going on right now. As long as you get it in there before October 31, 2016, mileage won't matter.
That said, it says piston replacement. Since your motor is completely blown, it might not help. Although it sounds like you notified Toyota of this problem and they kept hoping you would go away. At this point, given this information, I would contact the dealer and mention TSB 0158-14.
Unfortunately though, you still might end up stuck with the bill.Last edited by Exodus_2pt0; 02-02-2016, 06:50 PM.Leave a comment:

Im fully aware of what your assumptions are based off. I can fully understand how a dipstick reading works. Which is why i was clueless when it kept giving no reading even after letting it sit for a few hours after a fresh oil change. And i get your were trying to help in your own unique way but theres no need to act pretentious like you know more than me instead of giving help and advice.I highly doubt you have enough information to create a valid opinion on Japanese engineering. You are however entitled to a opinion, I agree.
You realize that no one will give your Mom a new vehicle right? Do you think she is happy about having to spend money to buy another vehicle, or repair her current one? Repair would be cheaper, and probably a better idea. That crappy Japanese engineered vehicle will outlast any modern BMW. (If properly maintained and cared for.)
Your inability to read a dipstick was my first hint that you are "some stupid fuckin kid who doesnt know a thing about cars." (Your words)
Also, I don't need to be in the car with her to know how an oil pressure light works.
I'm not trying to be an asshole. I'm merely telling you what you might not want to hear, but it's my opinion that you are coming off as a hot headed punk.
I totally accept that I can be an asshole.
Finally,
<3
Youre assuming that an oil pressure light was on but in fact there was no light on. Not only that, but if theres was no oil in the engine within the first couple of hours of her driving the car dont you think the coolant temperature gauge would be through the roof? I certainly do. And thank you for telling me what i might not want to here, there is always a negative to a positive situation.
The car has had multpile recalls over the years since it was produced. It makes the company look unreliable in my eyes.
I never said you were an asshole, cause youre not. Thank you for your help, Exodus. I apologize if I came off like a hot headed punk, this situation is just stressful. Thanks for taking your time to read through it, i appreciate it.Leave a comment:

This^^There's actually a recall letter that just went out for oil consumption. I have yet to schedule the appointment.
My wife also has a 2007 Camry (I assume your moms is also 4cyl?)
it's a car we love to hate and hate to love. It's "just ok" on gas (I expect 35mpg or more out of a 4 cylinder Japanese car)
BUT I will say it has needed hardly any repairs in three years, so it's been a blessing in terms of overall cost of ownership.
My wife's old boss had a Camry (same generation, may have been a 6cyl) and he also blew up the motor, although I didn't hear what the root cause was, I assumed oil starvation.
Thank you so much for your help!! And yes hers is a 4cyl. Other than cats and the alt pulley, it was a great car. It just always needed oil. And we always stayed on top of it. Sad to see it like this. But thank you so much, i greatly appreciate it.Leave a comment:

I understand that came off very childish and immature. But this car has given her multiple problems. Shes grown not very fond of the car and then it goes and blows up on her. I mean if she didnt see the fire who knows what couldve happened? She could be dead. Im sorry if it offended any of you, it was not my intention. Not here to make enemies, I just wanted some advice.Leave a comment:
