Yea, for the M50 a 5w30 is too thin unless your living in a very cold climate. A 0w40 or 5w40 synthetic or 15w40 dino weight is ideal however. 10w60 is known to shear pretty quick to a 50 weight but if it's a track motor that's ok however a bit overboard for the street.

Does he have oil sludge issues preventing proper flow to the head?

    What weight oil?
    I run 5w30.
    Very thin!

    Too thin i would say.

I run 10w60, dont think my engine would survive many laps of the ring with 5w30.

Lets not jump to conclusions. Stuck lifters are way more common than pump failures.

Make sure the oil is full and take it for a good, long drive. If it still makes noise after that, try some Lubromoly MoS2 additive and go for another long drive. 9 times out of 10 that will take care of it.

Yea he could be running to thick of oil.

Mine has a light ticking on initial start up for about 1.5 sec.

    M50/M52 Valve Adjustment??????????

might be a silly question but i have to ask for a friend. Do the M50/M52 non vanos motors have adjustable valves? is there anything that can be done to quiet down the ticking of an M50/M52. Thanks in advance guys. i did a search and came up with nothing.
