    so yeah im stupid

Ok so I went to tune up the E30 the other day and I didnt bleed the air out of the radiator after changing the fluid... so now I have leak comming from the intake area..around a seal.. anyone have the part number??

And maybe a leak close to the block... looks like I really fucked this up.

Anyone in the Virginia area that might be able to help, let me know. I could use it.

Very ambiguous. what intake part number are you referring to.... by a hose? the water pump seal?. any pics?

please tell me you didn't put the orange dex-cool fluid in.. it eats the seals. use only prestone 50/50 (although bmw coolant is preferred, but really no difference).

I used the green stuff and went 50-50.. I just didnt know about the bleeding part. I do now though as I just got my bentley manual in.

I believe its the seal up around the intake where two hose connect up...and it looks like its a bitch to get off the intake manifold.

Not bleeding the cooling system has nothing to do with blowing seals.

it seems you might simply have a bad T-stat housing gasket. drain, replace T-stat, seal, and T-stat housing gasket, rebleed and you should be fine.

your hoses will explode from air in the system well before your seals will fail.

one of the hoses exploded too... I apologize for not mentioning that earlier... the hose was the easy part to replace.

but is there anything else that could of caused the seal to blow cause it was pouring out pretty bad.

How do you replace the T-stat... the little round bolts looked like a allen wrench went in there but Im not sure and dont want to fuck anything else up on this.

Ohh, if it's that one, I would just bypass it unless you live in a place where it gets really cold. That is the throttle body heater and it is there to prevent the throttle from freezing closed. The little cork gasket leaks, so I just joined the two hoses together to bypass th throttle.

Whenever I get an E30 at work that needs cooling system repairs, I recommend replacing every single tiny little piece of the cooling system for this exact reason. It's like a domino effect. You replace one part, then another fails, then another, then another, and before you know it, the car has been back 3 times in a month because every time you replace the weakest link, the next weakest link goes. Ahh!!

Anyway, don't feel bad. It isn't necessarily something you did wrong (although you definitely want to make sure you get all of the air out of the cooling system, otherwise you risk overheating), it's just the nature of old cars. I'd definitely replace that little cork gasket on the throttle body, along with the metal plate and the 3 screws. If there are any other hoses that look or feel hard and brittle, replace them while you're at it. I'd try to get all of that stuff out of the way just so you don't have to worry about it anymore. It sucks to have a heater hose burst on the freeway. Just ask Ben Carufel.

I've been running my car fine without the t-body gasket....not a drip. No air in the cooling sys either. Maybe I'm lucky.
