anyone know how to hotwire their e30?

Even if you hotwired it you would have to disable the steering lock somehow. IVe done it on my Cabrio. But i had the dash out and access to both ignition harness and lock mechanism. I then took my trunk lock into a locksmith and got a key made.

I wouldnt even walk 5 miles to work.

I did that once and it was MUCH further than I thought! I didn't mind the walk. It was actually fun but I lost half the day in travel time and inrejuvinating myself.

It takes me 30-45 minutes to drive 30 miles to work at 65-70 mph. I wouldnt even walk 5 miles to work.

i had a locksmith come out and made a key for my ignition before, cost me about $50.

$120 later I have two 'new' keys. Called a locksmith to have a key made. He came by and by the third key got it right :D. I didn't know they just cut those suckers by trial and error with a metal file, lol.

fyi, BMW can also make a new ignition silonoid (sp?) coded to your vin for around $60. Only takes 4 days but I was told changing it out, espicially with the column locked, was more trouble than its worth.

Its a CYLINDER. And as far as key codes go, trial & error is relatively simple for BMW's because the tolerance of the lock will allow any key that "almost" fits to work. Technically there are 256 possible key combinations but 1 out of 16 will actually work. The link below explains this in detail. I thought it was a very interesting video. Its subtitled in english.

I dont think its that bad but I've only been on the ncsu wolfline. but I live in Garner now, so public transit is a no go.




I'll get right on that :p I used to walk to work, when I lived about a mile from the office.

Carpooling with the wifey actually hasn't been that bad, aside from the rush to get to class today. But it does save us on gas and she has AC :D

Call up your local BMW independent shop, and find out who they use...
