Hopefully BMW will have the hydrogen cars out by then, maybe they wont be that ugly either. Right now they have an E38 7 that will run on either propane or hydrogen.Im now E30less.

the idea of converting my car to electric has crossed my mind more than once. a la: http://www.electroauto.com/gallery/crx.shtml
siemens makes some hardcore electric motors these days... you'd actually probably want to start with an eta, as the fastest-spinning of them make peak hp @ 3600rpm, but their "high efficiency" motors go up to 500hp...
torque delivery with an electric makes me think that a 200hp model would be PLENTY of fun, and still complete my (25-mile) daily commute with plenty of charge left over.past:

I ride my scooter to work as much as possible... I hardly drive much anymore because of the high gas prices. I fill up my E28 with 10 gallons every 10 days and my M3 every 20 days... Premium in both with the highest prices in the country arn't helping right now... we are over $3.00 for some premiums here in Santa Barbara...'88 M3.2 S54 Lachssilber/Black

I hear there is a machine they cram dead chickens into that produces crude oil. lets go hunt lifestock so we can go cruizin some more in our E30s.
maybe old clothes and garbage can be thrown into this new machine to make crude oil also.
i hate political BS and corprorate mindgames. i say fuck em, but i still gotta buy that 91 octane.

By not buying gas on a particular day, the only people you are affecting are gas station owners, who are almost always sole proprietorships (small business owners). In the end, their pocketbooks are being hurt, not Exxon, Chevron, Shell, etc.
Not buying gas on a certain day makes no sense. You need gas. Sooner or later, you'll buy it, and it doesn't matter if you buy only on Fridays or every other week. Look at it this way: Let's say you love to drink Pepsi and you buy it every Monday. Price for a 6-pack was $2.50, now it's $6.00. If you say forget Pepsi, I'm buying water from now on because it's 80% cheaper, then that is an effective boycott. If you say fuck this, I'm going to buy Pepsi on Wednesday, it does nothing because in the end, you are still buying the product.

fred is correct. also, what many people fail to realize is that while this farce of a boycott may result is some small percentage of the general public from not buying gas, the rest of our gas driven economy keeps on truckin....planes, trains, big rigs, construction equipment, government vehicles, cops, etc, etc, etc dont give a shit about this day, sort of negating the whole "hurt the gas companies" bullshit.BEERTECH
