It probably just got cleared and then crushed. Ill find out if i can get someone to take me to that junkyard, can't ever drive the e30 there again.

    The tips:
First off i always stock up on fuses and shift knobs, hose clamps, window up/down switched, sunroof cranks. All the small parts that break easily on e30s. Also i came up with a great idea for "buying" parts. I use a trojan horse method, i buy a big cheap part and put a smaller expensive part inside it. I put a 173 ecu into the back of the drivers seat and bough it. My friend stole a whole garret T3 off of a volvo.
    The story:
Anyway i go to the junkyard and realize there is a fresh 88 325i parked toward the front of the yard, not yet with the other imports, It had imaculate black leather interior so i decided to get the drivers seat. On the way out the guy tells me its gonna be crushed real soon. So hurriedly the next day i go out with a friend with a full tool set, i dive into the engine bay cutting belts and hacksawing some stuff to get the i camshaft, i intake manifold, front and back seats all leather, i gauge cluster. i even put an xbox controller in the back of one of the seats that i had found. So I pretty much destroyed this cars engine bay to get the parts i wanted. threw the head of the m20 into a random van so it wouldn't get crushed. So after 3-4 hrs of work me and my friend carry all the parts up making 2 trips. The guy says "you got 600 dollars worth of parts there" as i layed them all out on the floor. i tell him ill give him all the money in my wallet for them which was $ 110 with 10 1 dollar bills, he hands me back all the ones so i get everything for $100. I come back the next day for the steering wheel and he says he can't even let me back into the yard. I guess the car was an impound, lol. It was someone's running e30 which i stripped and destroyed and it wasn't legaly the yards property yet. I guess all the guys that work the yard were really pissed off that it happened and they were gonna fence off that whole area of the yard because of me. As soon as he told me i got the hell outta there before anyone else saw my car. I haven't been back since and when i do go i sure as hell won't be driving my E30.

quick notes: Topoftheline89 tears apart someone elses E30 parked at a junkyard unknowingly. Sorry whoever you are out there.

A short story if you will about an experience of mine. Walking up to a local shady junk yard, I see a man who has a Guinness in one hand, and the other is operating a forklift with an old Mercedes teetering back and forth 10 feet up as his takes it into the junkyard. This is how I met Harry, the drunk, nazi, can't understand a word he says guy.

I absentmindedly took a plastic piece that said BMW, probably an insert for a bumper and guy saw it in my bookbag and threatened to get to get the cop involved. I was like, "for what, a piece of plastic?" And then he threatened that I wouldn't be able to come back....what a douche.

sometimes if I go to the windsor pick n pull yard, I throw parts over the fence. did it with a plastic bumper swap LOL.

they wanted $20 a piece for the bumper mounts x4, + 40 for the bumper covers each + 30 each for the bumper reinforcements, + 10 for each light on the bumper.

wayyy too much. what else did i throw over... i forget oh well.

I don't know what you guys' junk yards are like. There is an amazing junk yard a few miles from me that usually gets 2-3 e30s a month. The people at the counter don't know what parts are, and they ring shit up so low. I went last week and got a starter, guage cluster, radiator, spark plug wires with plastic rail, sealed beam headlight, and fan clutch for $38. That's not including the 173 ECU my buddy had in his cargo pants. I feel like the attitude of the people who work there is that they just don't care. They have a 30 day return policy on any parts...though I've never had to use it.

    I've pocketed:
    173 ecu
    nuts/bolts
    tail light assembly
    fuses
    subframe crossmember
    etc.

The funny thing is, I really am against stealing. For some reason it just doesn't seem that bad from a junk yard. I'm sure they make money off of me either way. And like I said...I feel like the people who work there know I do it...and they don't really care.

I went to a junkyard this morning that stacks cars 3 levels high. This would be the perfect place to perform a stunt like that. I don't know how safe those stacks are. When I was in the yard looking for an E30, I could hear the metal creaking in some of the stacks as if one of those piles were about to fall.

My mechanic told me that used ECU's are relatively hard to find because they have to be within a certain range of your VIN for it to work properly. I ended up having to pay $350 for mine and the mechanic had to try 3 different units before he found one that worked.

yeah, whats up, if an eta ecu were worth $5 and the i worth $20, isnt that an even swap? (4 eta's for 1 i) do the guy a favor and "be cool"

the cool thing is going in the junk yards that stack cars, climb up top and jump down on a car with closed windows. with enough force, a window will blow out. ive heard its a cool thing

    That sucks.
It was inside the yard but toward the front(this is a huge yard). The counter guy who knows me and that i am a regular there sold me all the parts thinking that the car had already cleared and was ready to be crushed. Apparently after the yard workers saw how thoroughly i stripped it they got really pissed. I'm still cool with the counter guy though.
