I have a small box that replaces the stock front ashtray in E30.. don't know if it's rare or not... But I bought new from the dealership ...72-60-1-942-786. neat has a spot for lighting to come through the side via a orange lens
        it's just a ETA !

Would you mind posting a picture of this? I can't believe I've never seen this before.

Not rare but a cool part. I've installed one in each of my last few E30s.

I found something similar to the box that rob and mr 325 explained earlier but, it has a lid and a adjuster under it. It can fit in the ashtray slot or on the door card storage bins. I have never seen one before 72.60.-1971 248. If someone knows what its used for or where exactly it goes, please explain.

I also have the coin tray with no lid that goes in the ashtray spot. Google says that your part goes in the door pockets and was originally sold for the e28:

I will post a picture of it, I may have posted the wrong part number from my invoice. I also have the coin box that got into the door pocket.. It's listed in the E30 parts catalog ( luxury model ) could only get a black one.. Pearlbeige was NLA. I borrowed this shot from the above link... I didn't have to pay $45.00 for mine ouch !
