The automatic test isn't that bad. The problem is that nobody does serious work on automatics anymore. Unless your at a specialty shop. Its cheaper and easier just to replace the whole tranny. With that being said, i passed it on my first try. Helps to know the general basics of operation and how planetary gearsets work.

The L1 is more of a bitch. Tricky questions about problems i've never even imagined.

Werd, thats the tough one, or so I have heard. My employer never wanted them so I never bothered.

Took four ASE's when I was just coming out of STEP. Since I hadn't been using SAE terms for a while, I remember thinking "what the hell is this shit?" They're long expired now, as they aren't accredited by BMW.

I took 3 of them first just for the hell of it, passed them all, then took the other 5 about 6 months later and passed them too- so I was Master ASE certified....until they expired and I decided not to take the recert tests since I'm not making a living as a tech.

I thought they were fairly easy, but I've always had an easy time with tests like that. I've never even taken an auto tranny apart, and don't do much AC work but I managed to get them all. What this tells me is that a guy who has worked on cars for a living for more than a couple of years who is NOT an ASE Master tech is not the guy I want working on my car. Sure, you can argue that he might not be good at taking tests, but I think he'd have to be a moron to have that much real world experience and not be able to figure out the answers to those multiple choice questions.

Congrats to the OP for passing those 2, now get the rest of them!!! ;)

Hey, I suggest you take the Service Consultant one as well, then if work pickins get slim, you have a second job to fall back on. Having the A-series with C-1 as a fallback is a good idea.

Yeah thats the one downer, I would need them for master. I guess if I ever did do them, it would be just for that reason, and I would put them off until dead last. In the near future I'm not even going to bother with them.

You now have your brakes cert, you need suspension and steering to take the X1 test which is under car cert and the only other test you need to take is exhaust.

Congrats!! We all start at the beginning.

Yeah I have heard its a real bitch, I don't even know if I will take it. I really hate transmissions a lot, that was my worst class this semester (manual). Theres just too many little things to know.

Anything I want to do I don't think I'm gonna be cracking into any trannys, I would assume any major shit would be sent out to a specialty shop.

Taking them out, putting the back in, no big deal. Taking them apart, worst thing even, not fun at all lol.

    Edit:

I think I will take steering and suspension (I was going to this year but I didn't know how bad the tests would be and I didn't want to take 2 on the same day), Engine Performance, possibly advanced engine performance I haven't taken that class yet, but I think it will be fine, engine repair, and probably exhaust for shits and giggles.

Like I said, I don't know if I will take any trans stuff, I really really hate it lol. HVAC I would take only if my employer wants me too. Haven't taken the class yet, but from what my instructor said its a pretty good area to work in. Apparently everyone hates it, I don't see why its that bad though.

Probably, if its not it should be. I bet they would beat it though for being retarded, but it would be fun to try.

Yeah, for some reason I keep thinking ATF and Crisco is the right answer. Always get that and motor oil confused...
